    Toad AI606 help

I had a Toad AI606 on my 911. I don't remember having any issues when I took the battery off (it was totally flat) as long as it is disarmed before you do it. I have a load of info on a CD which I will dig out but can't do it till Sunday if thats any help?

    Kitchen worktop cut-out

I'd agree with Scrit, use a jigsaw to cut out as router will take longer and make more mess. I have a Bosch Pro jigsaw and they still wander a bit but there is usually reasonable tolerance on the cutout for this not to be a problem. A tip I got was to clamp a batten across the worktop...

Raising the height of my 600mm oven

I am installing a 600mm Diplomat oven in a standard under counter oven housing. There are virtually no instructions on how it is mounted in the housing (either with the housing or the oven) but a useless diagram showing the oven just slotted into the gap. I have worked out the stability screws...

    Plastering advice needed!

These pro's replying know far more than me but I've had a few mistakes when plastering in the past that sound familiar. Was the heating on in the house when he did the job? (done this - it all cracked. Turned heating off - did job 2 days later no problems.) How long did it take for the plaster...

    Hole saws for spots

Just a tip. Cut a hole in an old piece of plasterboard before you try to fit your lights just to check. I've just fitted some that wanted a 68mm holesaw. Can't find one so used a 64mm and had to notch out for the clip brackets with a stanley knife.

    Amtico

I also looked at Amtico for my bathroom but in the end fitted Karndean which do a similar product but a fair bit cheaper (still not cheap though) . I had it fitted professionally as it is stuck to thin ply. Very pleased with it. The only issue is whether the finish you want is available.

    Freezing Pipes

I've just removed a rad in my kitchen (with a concrete tiled floor) and used a bung in the header tank and vent pipe. Only lost a little water from the rad and caught the rest in a container. If you have a gravity system these can save hassle.

Unable to use microsoft website update

This might be worth a try as it works in my company who have restricted MS updates but given some admin rights. Try to install the updates via another browser. If I install from Netscape the updates can be made but not from IE6. Might work with Mozilla too but have never tried.

    Linux

I'll make a prediction now. This will be a long thread. Difficult to answer most of your questions because most of the answers will be "Depends..." but here goes: Yes. Loads of people are using it. Like Windows only a bit different You can use the Linux flavours which are almost the...

Help - cracked self levelling compound

Thanks for the replies. I have painted the floor with a primer which is supposed to improve adhesion. I guess it will also reduce suction. I have poured the levelling compound so we will see. I have also skimmed the ceiling (so the moisture content is higher in the room) and turned off the...

Help - cracked self levelling compound

Hi, I have had a minor disaster with some self levelling compound. I mixed up and poured around 25m2 of Mapei Ultraplan Eco onto my concrete floor on Sunday late afternoon. Yesterday (Monday) it was OK to walk on and I did a few minor jobs and it looked good. This morning (Tuesday) I walk in...

Where should I run the cable for a new spur

Thanks both. Looks like metal earthed capping it is then. The mini trunking is a great idea but unfortunately my wife doesn't think so!

Where should I run the cable for a new spur

No, unfortunately there is a unit going in that corner and the existing socket is above the height of the top (which is good) but the wall alongside the window will be obscured. For reference were you going to suggest running the cable horizontally around the corner? If so would this have been...

Where should I run the cable for a new spur

Hi, I want to put a socket under a wide window. The nearest socket on the ring main is on an adjacent wall about half way up the wall and is fed by wires dropped vertically from the void in the ceiling above. Just to make it complicated the area marked with the red crosses has a load of pipes...

Signs and syptoms for a head gasket leaking

A head gasket leak can cause pressurisation of the water system as you describe. You don't always get contaminated oil. A garage should be able to diagnose the fault with a pressure test.

    Sim cards

The situation can be a little more complex. o2 do lock the majority of handsets to their network if on a contract. (They need to recover the subsidised cost of the handset via their tarrif). There is also a SIM incompatibility between early handsets and later ones I believe, but I don't know...

    Another plastering question

I have a wall in the kitchen (which is about to be refitted) that is reasonably smooth after removing the wallpaper but not quite good enough to paint. I am going to glue and skim. At one end of the wall there is a curve which is worst at the bottom of the wall where it is about 3/4" out in the...

Pipe freezing - Electric or Gas?

I shall fit isolating valves and as you state I could do this with only one drain down. probably give that a go. Good point about second hand freezer. Got to think why they are selling it. BTW the wall thickness on the 15mm copper I replaced was around 1/2 of the new piece, the concrete must...

Pipe freezing - Electric or Gas?

Thanks for the tips. I had thought of overflow pipe as well but didn't know if this was OK.
