WHAT DO THEY USE TO CLEAN THERE CARS AT AUCTIONS

I have seen Mer being used at auctions. It comes up shiny but doesn't weather as well as Autoglym. I use Autoglym on my Porsche (black) and it comes up a treat and resists muck quite well.

    Mobiles in hospitals

The amount of storage is relative although I think you are right, I don't think it is kept by the networks in such detail (yet!). The other thing though is that you do not have to be making a call for the network to know where your phone is. It is being tracked all the time it is on and can...

    Mobiles in hospitals

Cell ID only at a guess. i.e. it locates you to the cell that is hooked onto the call. The distances quoted would be typical of this accuracy due to the variable density of cells. In built up areas cells tend to be closer together, in rural areas they can be miles apart. Some buildings have...

    Mobiles in hospitals

jtaunton is correct. The whole compulsory positioning thing in the US was in fact the E911 directive. (E standing for Emergency) although there are a host of people who have their own conspiracy theories. There was a deadline set and handset manufacturers were bending over themselves to get a...

    Mobiles in hospitals

There is no adopted standard for position location in this country better than the active cell. ie. the cell currently communicating with the phone. This is not particularly accurate. There have been proposals (particularly in the US) for systems that can triangulate your position down to a few...

Plastering - When to use a scratch coat

Thanks that all makes sense. I've always got away with one coat of sand & cement on brick but as the walls were all pretty flat it was quite thin. I will go with your recommendations on this job.

Plastering - When to use a scratch coat

I have a plastering job coming up for my sister which involves some surfaces I have not plastered onto before (slate and lime mortar). I got an answer from a previous post which helped regarding reducing suction with waterproofer. I have always put the backing (sand and cement) on in one...

    MG ZT V8

Regarding the warranty - I heard on R4 this evening that the warranties must be honoured by the dealers. Apparently this is enshrined in law although the dealers dispute this. I wasn't listening too carefully as the only rover I own will go to the scrappers when it fails its MOT...

Did it used to have a cellar?

My brother recently bought a 1970-80's semi which had been extended to the side roughly doubling the size of it from a builder who was going through a divorce. After doing some work on the electrics he pulled up a floorboard and found an entire room complete with concrete staircase into a large...

    Finishing wiring

I'm not a pro plasterer so if they reply with different advice I would take theirs. I assume that you have channeled out your wiring runs and have sound skim each side of the channel. Wet the channel and apply a backing coat. I would use browning and rule off with the side of the trowel so it...

    Verge tiles: crumbling mortar

Same problem. The sparrows have moved in so a job for the Autumn I think.

    Nokia 1100

How did you manage to buy the phone without a SIM and yet have free minutes? You need a SIM for the minutes to apply to? This is interesting because looking through the legal stuff on Virgins site it appears that you are not tied into their service with this phone. Usually the operators tie...

    Plastering - reducing suction

Thanks. Sounds like a good idea. I have never used waterproofer before. Can I also use plasticiser which I normally use (Admix) in the same batch?

    Plastering - reducing suction

I'm after some plastering advice. I have a job to help out my sister who needs a fair bit of work done on her old house. I have no problem skimming board and floating and skimming the brick walls but one wall is stone which is some sort of local slate / shale with lime mortar at a guess. (One...

Bedding a WC on a suspended floor

A similar question was asked on this forum about bedding a WC onto a solid floor. I would like to know if my situation is the same. I have a back to the wall WC which is going on top of water resistant chipboard floor covered with Karndean (similar to Amtico). There is a small movement because...

    Noisy shower pump

My pump has a rubber mat thing underneath it which comes with the pump and has rubber fins. I have also put this on a 1/4 paving slab which sits in a cupboard on the floorboards. (Had this kicking round the garden for ages. Cleaned it up with a pressure washer first). There is now very little noise.

What's the best way to cut through floor boards?

I also use a circular saw set to the correct depth. Just make sure you don't hit any nails. You can use this to cut the tongue and midway across a joist.

3 Phase Ramp - Will it work ?

When I was younger my father ran a three phase car ramp from a single phase supply using a solid state convertor. Can't remember the exact cost of the convertor but I think it was around £75. It ran fine. I think it was a 1 1/2 hp motor.

    new instal Pace BSKYB 3100

Just to relate my experience. I recently purchased a Raven Quad LNB which is supposed to work with the Sky minidish because I wanted to run another feed into another room and I could move the standard sky box between rooms. However I only got "No satellite signal received" message from the box...

    gravel drive

Definately agree not to use pea shingle. My wife goes mad because I always bring it in the house in the treads of my shoe. Go for the bigger stuff. Weeds can still be a problem though in the areas that get no traffic. The high traffic areas are OK as the stones mince up the weeds.
