Rerouting external soil pipe, removing old cast pipes & joining into cast soil - Best option?

Thanks again for the advice. I'm hopeful that the elbow through the wall into the downstairs bathroom is socketed at each end and I can just attach the socket of a new elbow to the pipe which is coming through the wall, I'll do a wee recce under the floor to try and figure it out. The rest of...

Rerouting external soil pipe, removing old cast pipes & joining into cast soil - Best option?

Thanks to both of you. I'll see if there is an AAV in the crawlspace in the eaves where the solid pipe currently comes through from. If not, I'll have a good think about where would be best to fit one. I can get it above the toilet height in the eaves, possibly even above basin height too. I...

Bit of a door mess, frame and threshold issues - pics included, advice much appreciated.

Yeah, would consider a PVC door. However it ideally needs to be black and black UPVC doors seem to be twice the price of standard white... Think the main thing I need to get on with is lay the concrete to extend the threshold before the renderer does his bit. From the PVC frames I've seen...

Rerouting external soil pipe, removing old cast pipes & joining into cast soil - Best option?

Thanks for the advice. The old cast pipe for the sink waste is no-longer used, all of the bathroom waste goes into the soil pipe before it comes through the wall so no waste is going into the down-pipe, only rainwater. The roof is converted, 90s I think and I'm not convinced everything was done...

Bit of a door mess, frame and threshold issues - pics included, advice much appreciated.

By legs, do you mean the upright sections of the door frame? They are about 2" thick (looking at the door straight on) from memory of when the architrave was going on, maybe slightly thinner. Not sure how deep they go (width) in&out the way into the reveals though. I maybe need to pull off one...

Bit of a door mess, frame and threshold issues - pics included, advice much appreciated.

Hi all, in preparation for getting our house rendered I'm hoping to sort out the mess that is our back door. If you are a door fitter and you turned up here what would you do? It is one of the last things we need to do but I've been putting it off because I'm not sure how best to approach it...

Rerouting external soil pipe, removing old cast pipes & joining into cast soil - Best option?

Hi Hugh, thanks for the advice about the cast to clay junction under the ground. I wouldn't have thought to dig down so I'll have a look. When you say knock the cast sections out through the wall, do you mean to go under the floor, break it up and knock it out from the inside? That makes...

Rerouting external soil pipe, removing old cast pipes & joining into cast soil - Best option?

Hi all, hoping I can gain from your wealth of experience. We're getting the whole house rendered at some point reasonably soon and I'd like to sort out the mish-mash of pipework on the back wall while we're at it. Access to underfloor space is possible but its a bugger to get into so would...

Well all the bricks fell down... so what next.

So just a wee update, I've pulled out all the loose stuff and cleared the dirt out at the bottom then dug away to the bottom course of bricks which seems sound. Shuttered it with some scrap that I had lying around (no prizes for beauty but it does the job). Poured in two stages, built a little...

Best price for 100mm 1.2x2.4 PIR foil-backed insulation?

Also worth looking on eBay as there are a few companies selling big packs of seconds boards that might be a bit dented. Depending what it's for they might do the trick.

Well all the bricks fell down... so what next.

Thanks for all the replies. I've been distracted with some other jobs recently but will get into this over the coming week. Hoping to avoid taking it all down and starting again but will prop it well and remove the loose infill.

Most reliable method of joining 32mm mdpe water supply underground?

So we've just had a borehole drilled and are running a new water line 20m from it to the house. I've arranged for a local guy with a machine to dig the trench 750mm deep and have the sand to line it etc. The pipe will need to be joined under the ground at one end where the supply comes out under...

Well all the bricks fell down... so what next.

Thanks guys, yes, there was a wall that went to the height of the remaining brickwork on the wall, it had started leaning and a lot of the bricks at the bottom were crumbling. Wanted a normal handrail to replace it anyway. I'd hoped I might get away with building up some shuttering and just...

Well all the bricks fell down... so what next.

Our rear doorsteps had a brick surround which extended up to form a wall. As we are going to build some decking which will start off from the back of the steps, the upper wall part had to come down. Unfortunately, as I was taking the top section down I found that the bottom section which...

refurbishing a fairly unusual oriel window & some sashes

[/url] Thanks for that, the house is in a conservation area but not listed so I'm not sure where I'd stand. I wouldn't want to put anyone's noise out of joint as its a small village and I think people are quite proud of the heritage style. Also, I believe older buildinbee need to breathe a...

Thanks for your response, good to know. I guess I'll need to do a little more investigating.

Cracks and pointing on an old stone house

Thanks, its not a vent, although it looks like it in the picture, it is a piece of stone which had been dressed in such a way as to leave horizontal lines. I've managed to find a local builder who had experience with similar buildings who can have a look so hopefully he can give us an idea of...

Cracks and pointing on an old stone house

Thanks, the walls are certainly stone, not painted to look like it. And the crack hasn't been painted, I think that whatever was used to fill it just has a more blue tone so looks more obvious. The gable is painted white, the sheen is from the rain. I couldn't say whether the stone had been...

refurbishing a fairly unusual oriel window & some sashes

Hi Ree, Sorry, I didn't put up a very good picture to show the oriel (at least I thought that was the correct term). The four sections of glazing in the bay all appear to be set into lead, or at least metal and I'm confident it wasn't steel. One of the 24 small panes is cracked, the rest are...
