Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

I guess the key here is, where would you stand in a court of law? - the legal act/building regulation that requires compliance would always without question override the manufacturers instructions, I would assume?

Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

Why is it that so many in this 'Electrics UK' forum feel the need to constantly belittle, compete, patronise, post personal attacks etc etc... I post a simple question, get some good responses and yet some feel the need to break topic and post accusation and childish remarks, if you met in...

I don't think you noticed the caption above the photo :D It was only to show the extractor/downlight to the OP. My bathroom now looks like this:

Advice on fitting bathroom extractor fan

I had the same issue with bathroom ventilation need and opted for one of these: http://www.lyonlighting.com/acatalog/info_EFKITL.html You fit it directly above the Shower in place of one of the downlighters that you might already have installed there, the rest of the components sit in the...

Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

The phrase 'Maintenance Free' junction box came up during another thread and so I'm now curious as to what defines/differentiates the two, and the circumstances where you'd use one over the other? I assume maintenance free is if installing into a location that you may theoretically never gain...

    Boring lighting diagram check!

Thanks EFL, I'll do that then :o) 333 I'm not sure what you mean? This is a spur from my radial light circuit to power two downlighters.

Oddities at a friends new house!!

They do have one of those in the room, but this cable doesn't lead to it, I would have liked to have delved deeper to check but didn't get chance. I'll ask him to plug it back in for the meantime, lets hope the sparky has a good look around this week, I'll report back and thanks all for your...

    Boring lighting diagram check!

[/url] Ahhhh :D Ok, well I can lift the floorboard in the bedroom above if I need to get access, is that sufficient to comply or would I be better off unscrewing the unit from the joist and allowing sufficient slack for it to be capable of dropping out and through the spotlight hole?

Oddities at a friends new house!!

Interesting! Thanks for the replies, I'll hopefully hear back from my friend this week and will ask about what the electrician said! In the meantime, would you recommend that the cable be left unplugged?

Garage Electrics provided by downstairs mains ring

My tests won't replace those of an electrician, but I'd like to at least be able to do the basics and the important tests. I have used Fluke equipment in the past, its bloody brilliant but I can't account for their electrics range, would something like this suffice...

Oddities at a friends new house!!

Whoops, sorry, I have just edited my original post as I missed off the important fact that there was only a single conductor within the earth sheaving which was attached to the earth pin inside the plug.

    Boring lighting diagram check!

Just wanted to say thanks again EFL for the referral to these Hager junction boxes, really nice quality and good to work with. I have so far put the cabling in (not connected to live lights circuit) and today fitted the junction box ready to supply the two spot lights that will sit eitherside...
