    Air in my system ?

hi I recently had my radiators upgraded & some re-piping done. Very happy with result. However there is now a noisy gurgling sound whenever the heating comes on ie. first thing in the morning. It's annoying as the tank/boiler are above my bedroom. It sounds like air in the system -...

Double radiators - more expensive to run ?

Thanks - better keep an eye on that heating bill then ! One more thing - the double that was installed in the hall (near front door) was not fitted with thermostatic valve (the others were). The main thermostat is also situated in the hall. Was this an oversight by the plumber or could...

Double radiators - more expensive to run ?

hi I've just upgraded several of my singles to doubles - kick out a lot more heat & now nice and snug :) However, it has occurred to me that these may be a bigger draw on the boiler & therefore more expensive to run. Is this the case or are they just a more efficient use of the heating...

Assessing my house for further insulation / weatherisation ?

thanks again Am I right in thinking that these "chalet" style first floors (if that's what they're called) are prone to cold (more than traditional houses) ?

Assessing my house for further insulation / weatherisation ?

Thanks Hmm .. I'm still unsure as to who I should contact for this. What sort of "specialist" surveyor do I need ?

Assessing my house for further insulation / weatherisation ?

hi I recently moved into a 1963 detached house with the first floor in the roof e.g. kind a chalet style with dormer windows. This was in the summer. It has (old) cavity wall insulation & I had Mark Group insulate the loft for me. However, now it's winter I've noticed how cold it can...

Advice please - think I may be being ripped off ...

He has specified in the quote an "insurance 5 lever lock", and said it would cost £50. This lock costs £22 rrp (and £14 on line) and is not BS certified. I will tackle this with him.

Central heating pump permanently on !

No boiler activity - just on, endlessly whirring away day & night. Most of the time the boiler works OK - so far it has been just the one failure (which prompted me to get the plumber in).

Central heating pump permanently on !

thanks Yes - I've had one instance of flashing red light. Had to reset. The only way to get the pump to turn off is to turn the boiler off.

Advice please - think I may be being ripped off ...

Exactly ! So how do I address this - just dig my heels in and refuse to pay the money he asked for .. ?

Advice please - think I may be being ripped off ...

thanks Although technically this is an internal door, protected by a multipoint locking porch door - so maybe it's not strictly necessary ?

Advice please - think I may be being ripped off ...

hi I recently moved into a new house, which didn't have any keys for lock on the outside porch door. The porch gives immediate access to a garage (converted to office) which I want to use as a music studio. This has a crappy light wooden internal door with no lock. So I panicked a bit &...

Central heating pump permanently on !

I'm dearly praying you are wrong ! It has cut out once in the last week - and I have seen the continuous pump running problem quoted a few times in relation to the infamous Potterton PCB problem (but not as much as cut-out).

Central heating pump permanently on !

Ah - seems it might be: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=253408#253408 ..or might not: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=222820#222820 :( And the vendors had a basic BG boiler inspection done for me a couple of months ago as well. Well I'm going to...

Central heating pump permanently on !

hi I moved into a new house a couple of weeks ago (built 1965). It has a Potterton Suprima 50L, installed in the attic in 2004 by BG. I immediately noticed a continuous noise coming from the attic at night. The heating seemed to work OK - but then one morning it didn't start...
