Any way to increase rad temp on woodfired Central Heating?

Regarding output (taken form manuf'rs site): I checked the thermo by putting it up to 50. The thermo appears to be attached to the hotter of the two pipes. Could this be the problem? I'm afraid I can't tell you if it is gravity fed or not. Is there a way I can find out? Thanks for all...

Any way to increase rad temp on woodfired Central Heating?

Hello all, I had a wood fire installed last September that also connects to my (indirect) cylinder. There is a thermo on one pipe near the fire. If it is on 40, the rad pump kicks in, but moves only warm water around. If I turn it above 40, the rad pump turns off, but the tank then fills with...

No heat from the rads off a woodburning boiler stove

My wife had turned off the switch for the pump! Lovely and warm now, ready for the snow!

No heat from the rads off a woodburning boiler stove

We recently had a woodburning boiler stove fitted for cost/environmental reasons. It is set up as the picture in the link below shows (as far as I can ascertain): http://www.boilerstoves.co.uk/boiler-stove-installation-B.html The hot water is glorious - very hot and plentiful. The only...

Oil tank value + how to extract oil

I am selling a 1250l double sealed oil tank, that is in good nick and only about 5 years old. Could anyone please give me an outline price to expect please? Also, I have around 500 litres in there, that I need to remove. Any (sensible) extraction and transportation suggestions? The local...

Trianco 15/19 PRO BF Oil Boiler not firing up

This appears to come from the connection to the flue, so that is one jubilee clip tighted and THAT problem solved.

Trianco 15/19 PRO BF Oil Boiler not firing up

How easy is it to get to the nozzle/bleed the pump? Thanks for your diagnosis so far!

Trianco 15/19 PRO BF Oil Boiler not firing up

Both, for the standard issue "covers all problems" solution, and a possible explanation of problem. I cannot see any ignition light, and we cleaned the photocell to see if that made any difference. Checking back, the nozzle hasn't been replaced for 19 months! Is this easily do-able, or well...

Trianco 15/19 PRO BF Oil Boiler not firing up

Hello all, The oil was admittedly quite low, so we reordered, and now it won't heat at all. There seems to be about 5mm of water in the base of the boiler, and when we press the red lock-out button (the only button on the internal face of the boiler), it fires for around 10 seconds, then cuts...

Gradual temp decrease on electric shower - any ideas?

I have a Mira Sprint electric shower, and has been installed about a year. I have noticed recently that i have to turn the dial further around than I used to for a hot shower. 12 o'clock used to be ideal, but it now needs to be at 3 o'clock to be warm enough. Before you mention it, I...

How do you dry co-axil cable?!

The reception from my digibox was getting worse and worse, and gave up altogether on Friday. Today I checked a join, where two terminals meet (the main cable and the cable to my digibox), and the plastic sleeves had water inside. The cable goes through an airbrick and then UP to this...

How do I fit an aerator/ Automatic float air vent

I have air in my CH system that I can't seem to get rid of. My existing system has an old (upside down bottle) aerator which has rather rusted over, so have purchased a new one to replace it with. The question is: how? I am presuming that if I unscrew the present one, I am going to have a...

    Loose tap

I would replace it. You need a strange looking wrench that has two buck teeth on each end to grip the (usually plastic) nut under the tap. Only give it a 1/4 turn, or you risk splitting the bath itself. Screwfix sells a basin wrench for £2.29 (code 13294-37)

    Pipe Freezing Kits

I have used the pipe freezing kits when I took off a rad in the bathroom, then moved it. There was about a month between those two events BTW! I fitted an isolation valve to the pipes, and then could continue as normal. Oh, and as a tip, their advice that you need one can per 8mm pipe...

    All radiators cold (except one)

I increased the pump speed, and all radiators are now up to speed. Many thanks to those who have assisted with advice. I will probably replace the pump if I reduce the speed and the rads cut out again.

    All radiators cold (except one)

After the hot summer just gone, we realised that we had not turned our CH on for weeks. Oddly, the bathroom rad (which we recently replaced) comes on, but all the others are stone cold. Although the pipes around the pump are hot, and there is a noise, I have bled it and increased the speed...

    Catflap on Double Glazing

Help me solve a wife-dilemma. I say that it is not possible to put a catflap IN the glass of a double-glazed back door (and I mean totally double glazed, not one of those half and half jobbies). She says it might be possible. Help?

Help needed with in-loop kitchen system

Yes, the four way junction box was the way to go. Every book I have assumes a level of understanding that, frankly, my GCSE in Physics 12 years ago didn't supply. Thanks once again. Especially to the guy who offered to come around and have a look for me!! Wow!

Help needed with in-loop kitchen system

Hello, I have an ordinary halogen strip light that i want to connect to my kitchen in-loop light circuit, but it only has a basic (ie one wire each connection) joining unit. Can I buy expanders suitable for the (nine) wires that I need to link up to this circuit? Also, how do I distinguish...
