What type of wall material is this?

How about posting the photos also in the building forum- they might be able to identify it?

Is this wall load bearing and how much to move it?

Yeah we definitely need to put a loo in there; is this likely to cause issues as far as your suggestion is concerned (please excuse my ignorance!!) >>I'm not a builder myself, but I've been going through similar iterative processes myself of how to rearrange our existing space. I can see...

Is this wall load bearing and how much to move it?

How about leaving the wall which is by the stairs as it is, but pushing back just the section where the door is out onto the landing, as far back as the master bedroom door, to give you an L-shaped batheroom (you could move that bedroom door too, but not sure if the benefits would be worth it...

    Suitable Insulation - abnormal construction

Thanks woody, the steel will be supporting a new external front wall (bringing the front wall forward from the location of that other beam. The joists are also designed / calculated to run parallel between the beams. Our neighbours did something very similar and the BCO apparently was ok...

    Suitable Insulation - abnormal construction

Thanks Woody. Admittedly I don't know much about timber frame buildings, but would that be able to support the required beams above and the roof? I have uploaded some pictures showing the problem caused by the foundation detail. I have included the locations of beams etc. This shows the...

    Suitable Insulation - abnormal construction

As part of our garage conversion and extension, we are going to need to build an inner leaf to our single skin wall. Because this will also be supporting a steel and walls on the first floor, the inner leaf will be block. Due to the construction of our floor (long story) we can only leave a...

    Building Regs Time Implications

Thanks RedHerring, definitely useful to hear of an actual example rather than assumptions. I assume that you told the BCO after you'd paid the fee to the office for the whole lot?

    Building Regs Time Implications

We have planning approval for our 2 storey rear, single storey side extension + garage conversion and first floor extension (building over the garage). All on 1 application. We are likely to do this work in two phases, starting with the garage conversion with first floor extension. It is my...

Blagdon Powersafe Outdoor Wall Socket Kit

What about the way she drilled the hole from the outside-in? I was taught never to do that - far more likely to hit something you don't intend to, even if you take measurements etc. She also drilled the hole horizontally instead of at an (upwards) angle.

    Planning Conditions - Obscured Glass

Cheers chaps. I was planning on re-using some windows anyway, with the current bathroom window being the right size and available. I may just hold it as a spare "just in case" and use some film. I think you are right, the neighbours don't seem to give a monkeys!

    Planning Conditions - Obscured Glass

good idea, but they have specifically said this: The first floor window in the side elevation of the two storey rear extension facing no.(address removed) and the first floor window on the south elevation shall be glazed using obscured glass to a minimum of level 3 of the "Pilkington"...

    Planning Conditions - Obscured Glass

Our planning application has reached the "weekly list" stage of the process and I have read the planning officer's recommendation. She has suggested that it be approved, but one of the conditions is that the first floor window that "overlooks" our neighbour's garden, should have obscured glass...

    Removing decking screws Ryobi drill/driver

Thanks, one of the biggest problems is that most of the screws have been driven right down under the surface, the heads aren't even visible and are blocked by splinters of deck, so I'm working blind. I will try all the tips you have given and hopefully I'll get on a bit better!

    Removing decking screws Ryobi drill/driver

Thanks again gents. A Pozi 3 doesn't fit the head, so looks like I'll use my Wera Pozi 2 that I've ordered. I went for an impact bit, in case I get the impact driver, but it sounds like I perhaps should have got a gold or diamond bit. I'll try it and see!

    Removing decking screws Ryobi drill/driver

Ok, well I think I'll start by getting a couple of decent bits and a Wera bi-torsion adapter. Still not sure if I need PZ2 or PH2 as my existing Phillips bit seems to fit a removed screw just as well as my Pozi bit. - I could buy a couple of each. If the new bits don't work, then I'll try an...

    Removing decking screws Ryobi drill/driver

Cheers guys. One of the main problems I've had is seeing the heads. I found that using a flathead bit helped to start some of them, but soon broke the corners off of the bit! Both the pozi and phillips bits I had were slipping and beginning to damage the screw heads. Anything I should look...
