Protecting ceiling boards from downlight springs

I'd never seen fittings that you had to remove to change a lamp before.. however one of my new customers had. Awful design and resulted in the ceilings getting trashed. Customer spent a lot having 50 + removed and replaced.... I'd suggest employing a decent electrician that doesn't fit...

Wiring details for stand-alone hi-lo PIR

With that set up you'll have to leave the light switch on to have the light working - you'd need to supply a permanent live in order to get it to work the way you want.

    superconducting T&E discovered

Why not take out three phase? Seems a much more sensible idea and future proof. Cost difference between 3 and 4 core SWA is minimal

Putting a single phase RCBO in a three phase board

hager have two types of SP RCBO - one designed for their single phase boards, and one designed for their 3 phse boards. The latter has longer tails to allow them to reach.

    house rewire

toph, where abouts in Bucks are you? I cover most of the area. Perhaps it'd be an idea to have a PIR done on the property - then you'll know how much work really needs doing. The alternative would be to consider rewiring one room at a time, this would be more expensive, but allows the work...

    SWA and RCD protection

sounds like your electrician may be in the wrong! if the cable is below 50mm or visible then I see no reason for the RCD protection. Where in Hertfordshire are you? I could come and give a second opinion.
