Ta. As i dont know whats on there now - I will acrylic undercoat to be safe. Then I can either eggshell or emulsion if i have understood you help correctly.

Thanks Z - if i decide upon acrylic eggshell as top coat - do I still need the acrylic undercoat (bearing in mind the existing covering could be solvent based or water based)

We have a small room with wood cladding on ceiling. It looks like a white eggshell finish. Can I overpaint with emulsion or should I use acrylic eggshell. Not really 100% sure what is on there now is half my prob!

I have bannisters and spindles that are covered in what appears to be wax. It has worn away in places and gathered up into bundles of wax. It is soft and sticky. If I want to get back to a white gloss finish - how should I achieve this. Thanks John

ta robbie. Maybe caulk was what I was thinking. I did not realise decorators caulk had bonding properties that would bond poly coving.

Will the coving adhesive bond to the ceramic tile - just a thought. I have heard that people use other bonding agents - other than the obvious coving adhesive! Thanks John

ok thanks - I will drain down! Breezer - when I say 'down the hole' I am talking smaller than a pins diameter. I would assume a spot of solder would do it - maybe not enough to cause a blockage. If I cut the pipe-it is fixed 1ft either way through wall - i am not sure if I could get a fitting on.

Ta Breezer. Could I run the solder direct onto pipe and down hole or do I have to cut and fit a straight soldered connector. I presume I could turn rad off either and and drain local pipe?

Had a freak accident where I dropped a scalpal blade (with handle) which pierced a 15mm rad pipe. The hole is minute but is sending a fine squirt of water skyward. Can I repair without draining down. What are my options. Thanks in advance.

I have a small room which appears to be a mottled paint effect covered with some type of clear glaze(not sure of exact spec Third eye !!). I want to go back to plain emulsioned walls, but, am wondering if I will come accross any issues(reaction or adhesion?). Any ideas how to have a trouble free...

I would like to recoat a hardwood garage side door. How do you know what is already on the door? or does it really matter. Can you put woodstain onto varnish and vice-versa? Any help appreciated as usual !!

The coving appears to be finished in white gloss. I want to cover with white matt emulsion to match ceiling. Can I apply the white emulsion onto the white gloss - or is there another stage between. Ta John

The metal door has areas of flaking paint. It is rented house- so not sure wether to just make good rather than strip it all off. If I go down to galvanised steel, what system should I use to get back to a gloss white finish. Thanks
