Drainage Guys... quick question re: vent pipes

I quoted for a bathroom today. It is an 1930's terrace with a bathroom at the front and a cast iron soil. They also want a back bedroom converted to another bathroom. There is a cast iron vent pipe there too and a manhole nearby. I started talking about a 'dig up' etc, but they then cut me off...

    Racism or Realism??

Without being flippant, I pretty much figured this would happen anyway - you only have to open your eyes and ears. I think the whole white or non white issue is a bit muddied though. Portsmouth - my home town - is brimming with white immigrants as well as coloured. This is what happens when...

    Bath installed with no feet/support

If it is a plastic bath with a flat wooden base, then we have done this ourselves before. ( Only because the legs were missing and we couldnt wait for a replacement. I have to say the frame my chippy made up was excellent and if we had time, we would do it more often. Fine adjustment of the...

    Grohe flush

The grohe tanks usually have a service valve to isolate the float valve - usually a screw. There is often a flexi hose to which should be unscrewable with your hands. The dump valve should then unscrew a bit first ( anti clock wise ) and lift out - although it is still quite awkward. You...

    I wish I was a plumber!

You're in luck!!! It now takes 2 weeks for you to be on your way to endless riches and a godlike status. Shop around, I am sure you could get it down to a week. In some parts of the world, all you have to do is 'say' you're a plumber and 7 virgins are yours to do what you wish with. It's great!!

Advice on badly fitting bathroom suite...

This sound like you originally had a low level wc, and have now got a close coupled wc. The hole in the ground was suitable for the old but not the new. If it is wooden floor, then 9 times out of 10, you can a few boards up and rerun the short run of pipe to accomadate new wc. On a solid floor...

Advice on badly fitting bathroom suite...

Leaky stopcock - Often the packing gland goes on a stopcock, especially if it hasn't been used for years. Generally not the plumbers fault, but it takes 10 minutes to sort out and should of been done. Bath Panel - If the bath waste pipe was too high and couldnt be lowered, and \ or the new...

plumbing advice for connecting WC pan to 3.5" soil pipe

Yup. The MKS7. The pdf file on that site gives an idea of what pipe sizes it goes into. The MKS7 goes into an ID of 88mm to 92mm, about 3 and half inches. Also, get ready for a few unpleasant 'deposits'. You will most likely need to hack away at an additional lining of scale combined with all...

Do bathroom 'zones' extend outside the bathroom door?

Thanks for replies. I did get the feeling he didnt want to do the job - Friday afternoon and all that! . To be honest, I did get a bit suspicious when he first suggested a 20amp MCB for an 8.5kw electric shower. After he disappeared for 10 minutes, he then suggested a 45amp mcb with an RCD...

Do bathroom 'zones' extend outside the bathroom door?

Silly question I know, but read on..... I plumbed in an electric shower this week and ran most of the cable to save the sparky some leg work. Because the flat has concrete ceilings I decided to fit the isolation switch outside the bathroom as a wall switch - the customer requested this too...

    shower pump connection gone wierd

Yup. On top of that, it is Samander pump who are one of the most strictest ( anal ) about correct installations. Anyway, I spoke to them today and they are sending me their own NRV to resolve the issue. The problem I had was 'hunting' and the NRV they are sending me has a very lose 'gate'...

    shower pump connection gone wierd

OK. Coincidence time. A Salamander pump that I fitted a few weeks ago has been having a few problems. It has stopped firing up until about 5 minutes after the showers have turned on. It ends up that the NRV are restricting the flow on the hot side, and the only way to get the flow switchs...

users must empty the basin so that Shower can drain ?!?

10m run??? hmmmm I suspect an air admittance valve is in order. ( perhaps an AA trap can be fitted to the basin. ) This would be the simplist thing to try first. Or positive pressure?? In which case the pipe will have to be opened and vented without AAV.
