Second coat. Bloody angle bead flipped out at the bottom today. Think next time I'll use grab adhesive on them to keep them secure.
Is it best to leave the render a couple of days to dry before applying the limelite finish?
Also is limelite finish just like multi finish to mix and apply?
Cheers vinn. Will be sure to wet it before I start the next coat. Thinking of getting a big patio slab for a hearth, would I be better to put a bit of Dpm down before bedding the slab in?
Hi vinn. Lined the cavity today and got as thin a render scratch coat as I could. Man I hate rendering, just hope I've got it on ok and it sticks.
I'll give it another scratch coat tomorrow and then the lime finish the day after.

I was going to get hardiebacker but the murchants i was in didnt stock it. I would of needed 3 of them so the glasroc didnt work out that much more expensive.
Ill have to pop out and change the stop...
Balls. ill have to take it back along with the beads ( yes the beads have the mesh on them)
Ill get this for the finish coat shall i http://www.pozament.co.uk/products/high-impact-finishing-plaster/
I just hope that glasroc multiboard is the right stuff. They said in the murchants its what...
The stop beads will be lining up with the edge of the glasroc which is lining the internal cavity so will be going around the opening. I've got corner beads for the chimney breast corners.
In thought if I do a thin scratch coat I would just push the beads onto that.
The limelite is renovating...
The stop beads I've got are 10mm so I take it the first 'tight' scratch coat should be around 3mm and then another scratch coat of say 5mm.
After this I've got limelite for the finish.
Gave the chimney a bit of a sweep today. Going to fit cement board in the cavity tomorrow and have a go at rendering.
Got me some 3.5 nhl hydaulic lime today and some plastering sand. I take it you mix this stuff pretty thick ?
I've also got some glasroc multiboard to line the inside...
Thanks vinn. Just to clarify as I've not rendered before. I just mix 3 sand to 1 lime add water (no cement?) and spread it on the wall like a bonding coat?
Do I pva wall first?
Vinn, you said not to use gypsum on the chimney, why?
I've knocked all the old plaster/render off and want to crack on. How's best to go about it? Bond it, brown it or plasterboard it or should it be rendered?
Not sure what to do.
Yeah just felt too high. I also had some people suggest the lintel was not sitting on the bricks far enough so killed 2 birds with one stone.
Got to figure out how to plaster it up now.
If you zoom in on the first photo the right pillar has bricks missing at the back. They might of been smashed out for pipes at some stage.
That why I've left that little column of bricks to give the lintel a bit of support.
Floor is being replaced. So you reckon it's safe to take away the rest of the brickwork although there are bricks missing at the back of the pillar? Can't see the pillar going anywhere and when I get them bricks out the way I can brick that void at the back of the pillar.
Took some bricks out today. Im a little worried that behind that right pillar at some point bricks were took out. Will i be ok to take the rest of them bricks out thats in the way and then brick up behind that pillar?
I'm opening up our fireplace to give it the wood burner effect although we...
