The best way of going it alone.

Thanks DESL. My wife and I decided a few years ago I need a career that's futureproof and could be taken anywhere in the country as my current industry is dying a painful slow death. As 2nd jobs we've been pulling houses apart and putting them back together (at a higher price hopefully)...

    Electric fencing.

Thanks Everyone. All I have to do is persuade her from going through with her brain dead idea! It will be madness. You are also right. Rutland is a very nice area of the country indeed.

    Electric fencing.

My country loving sister has been watching too much 'The Good Life' and is serious thinking to turning over half of her garden to raise animals. (She still points at aircraft flying over head when she visits me.) Anyway she thinks she will need an electric fence. Are there any...

The best way of going it alone.

Thanks for reply. As far as I'm aware once I have 2330 and 2381 (17th edition is called 2382 I believe) then NICEIC want to inspect a major and minor piece of work. Also they want to see calibrated and certified 16th edition testing equipment (or whatever changes 17th edition bring) and...

    Supporting cables.

Cables grouped de-rates cable considerably as they cannot radiate heat away from themselves so can only carry less curent. Table 4B of the regs gives factors for such groups of cables. It would be much better to clip them one cable width apart.

I got electrocuted! A few questions....

Just because a earth wire is present in your light switch doesn't mean it goes any where! As an earlier post said there must be continuity from the switch back to the earth terminal. Get a sparky to test. A loose connection is usually the cause, just one loose tiny copper thread out of the...

    Outside lights/RCD

Outside fixed equipment is not required to have RCD protection. Also consider that cables need protection against direct exposure to sunlight. Best to use Black PVC or rubber cables. Also comes under part P.

I got electrocuted! A few questions....

Didn't you already do this the first time you were shocked? Seriously though. Electricity is no joke. Get a qualified electrician in to test your circuits. The current could have been quite high, but your footwear for instance could have given a sufficient resistance to lower the...

    Tumble dryer

May be you should post this again in the appliance forum. I had a similar problem with my built in freezer. the cause was moisture that had built up and caused water to collect in the comparment where the flex meets the switch live to thermostat. All that was needed was a kitchen towel...

Washing machine. Is a fused spur absolutely necessary?

Just gone through the Electrician's guide to building regs and states: 5.2.2 p56 vii) Socket-outlets supplying appliances pushed under a work surface eg dishwashers, tumble driers and fridges should be accessible when the appliance is pulled out. viii) Appliances built into kitchen...

Popped over from UK electrics forum. A house down the road has replaced their front door and I am trying to recycle their disregarded one. The door is wooden but UPVC covered. I need to narrow it by 6cm and reverse hang. Two questions a) I only have a jigsaw which I will run down...
