    Finding an Electrician

I notice that lindsayg is from Glasgow. Perhaps you live in one of those delightful blocks of rabbit hedges by the motorway / ringroad I drive past on the way to Lock Lomond golf club? Therefore the quotes also factor into account the 50/50 chance of never seeing your van/tools left...

Can fused spurs be put in series

Wiring in series is not the right terminology, but I understand what you are asking. Physically this is fine to have two loads of a spur providing it is a fused socket as you suggest you are using. However, you will have an issue with the total load. As the spur is 13A then you only have a...

    dimmer question

Point I noticed. On your old back picture the red live conductor has copper exposed out of the terminal. Not a good idea. When you put the new switch on only expose enough copper wire to make the terminal. I don't have a signature as i don't have any wit or imagination. :(

    Outdoor light

Can you clarify something? When you say 30m sq do you mean total area ie 6m x 5m = 30m sq or do you mean 30m x 30m? If the former I have a yard out back of my house with about that dimensions and I used a 500w Halogen. Frankly you can argue it is too bright and a 300watt bulb would provide...

Adding a new ring for Kitchen Appliances

Just gone through the Electrician's guide to building regs and states: 5.2.2 p56 vii) Socket-outlets supplying appliances pushed under a work surface eg dishwashers, tumble driers and fridges should be accessible when the appliance is pulled out. viii) Appliances built into kitchen...

    Kitchen Lights

If you have a insulation resistance tester and low ohms resistance tester then it would be a good idea to isololate the circuit and test for insulation resistance between all combinations of conductors and continuity of the coductors. It may be something in an appliance. Cannot give you any...

    Multi-Meter

To test to IEE regulations BS 7671 a multi meter on it own is not much use. You will need the following equipment. 1) a continuity tester (low ohms) resolution to 0.01 ohms. (most multimetrers will only go as far a 0.1 ohms). 2) an insulation resistance tester. 3) a loop impedance tester...

    Extra Sockets

Assuming all of your circuits are electrically sound and your cable is 2.5mm, at present you can have a maximun of 3680 watts on a 16A CB (230v x 16A). A 2.5mm cable is rated at 27A (assuming there is no need to re-rate the cable due to correction factors). Therefore as stated by previous...

    Xmas Lights...Argh!!!! I know its early but . . .

If you live in my area you cannot call them Christmas lights as the council have deemed in several meetings (all paid for out of my inflation beating rising council tax) that saying 'Christmas' will offend all non-christian religions. Therefore in the light of this (no pun indended) can we...
