Walk on glass skylight - any tips or advice?

Yes, have been planning this (as part of the extension) for near 1 year now. I am wanting feedback from anyone that has one or installed one...always nice rather than just someone that thinks they know about them/things! Top tips about the plastic decking supports though FMT, thanks. I...

Walk on glass skylight - any tips or advice?

Hi, think this is the best section for this? As part of a kitchen extension, we are planning on having a 1x1m walk on glass skylight fitted (as par to the balcony above) to let some natural light into the inner part of the house that will be enclosed by the new extension. We have had the...

[/url] Thanks, you just beet me to it. I spotted the rubber pads last night, then remembered seeing in a DIY store plastic supports for use in a loft that allowed you to board out the loft whilst not compressing the insulation...

Hi We are having a single story kitchen extension built with a sunken mansard flat roof section. This will also include a 1x1m walk on glass roof skylight. The roof deck area will be decked out with wooden decking boards to the level of the walk on glass (150mm above grp deck as per...

    Painting over varnished cladding inside

Thanks that sounds better! I had vissions of having to sand off the varnish  As said it is quite a country looking kitchen so we are not wanting a 100% perfect finsih, more os a semi distrest look (which is what most of my painting looks like  ) Edit to add, oil base under...

    Painting over varnished cladding inside

Thanks for the quick reply. Sanding down sounds quite a lot of work  And even more so to get into the grooves in the cladding! I think I might do some test sections, some straight emulsion, others with a primer then emulsion, and maybe gloss then emulsion.

    Painting over varnished cladding inside

Hi In our kitchen the ceiling is varnished wood cladding, good condition, but only issue is combined with the red quarry tile floor, it makes the room quite dark. We like the the texture and appearance the cladding gives, (the kitchen is in the country style,) so thinking of painting over...

What is the name of a flat roof with a pitch at perimeter?

Sunken Mansard :P We are having one built as part of our kitchen extension. The flat roof section will have a 1m x1m walk on glass section to let light into the inner part of the house, and decking to bring the floor level to make use of the flat roof as a balcony...

Under sink water heater, instant or stored?

Thanks that's a great suggestion, ideal if was doing a bit more disruptive work to the house. But the undersink option keeps all the mess and work to the new build section.

Under sink water heater, instant or stored?

Thanks, that was my thought as well. I have seen some nice 10L units for about £90. Will still run hot water pipes to the sink locations, valves and caped off just in case electric unit failed, or change of mind. Edit to add. Think I will go with a 15L 3kw unit (ariston £120), as...

Under sink water heater, instant or stored?

Hi We are planning a kitchen extension and due to distance from current hot water tank, rather than running loads of water off to get hot water, thought it might be best to fit an electric under sink unit that then utilises the tap as normal. I have seen 2 types, ones that are instant...

U value of 20 year old Everest window units

Yes, about £700 from wickes. £1500 was for a futher 2 windows and another patio door. I am going all new, but only to tick the planning box, its just a waste of money buying new.

U value of 20 year old Everest window units

Thanks for the reply. I have phoned Everest and asked if they could give me the U values. "U values, what's that" was the reply given by the lady on the phone! Anyway finally got through to someone, that said they had no values from back then. I would be interested in this low e test...
