    keybord prob

It sounds as though you have a faulty keyboard but it's worth running an antivirus and malware scan. If you use Windows and type in more than one language check that the Language Bar is correctly set. A third party program which lets you type non-Latin characters through a virtual keyboard...

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

Thanks, that's what I've been doing this afternoon. I had a similar problem nine months ago. At that time I took the pump out and found a significant amount of lint inside. It seemed to work ok after cleaning so I refitted it and it worked fine for the next three washes before shorting...

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

Hi, as I closed the door of my Hoover W1120 washer I noticed that the earth leakage switch on my fusebox had tripped. I hadn't even selected a program or turned the machine on. The fault is now present whenever the machine is connected to the mains, with all controls 'off', regardless of whether...

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

Thanks! I'll check further in the morning....I bypassed the filter and the RCD still trips.

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

It trips all the time now but earlier it would happen if I moved either the dryer timer dial or washer program dial to any 'on' position, even without using the On switch which has always been needed to get those functions to operate. I'm guessing the dials connect the neutral and the On...

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

I just removed the mains filter and the insulation of the incoming neutral wire is hard at the terminal and a little green, as if it has been running very hot. The other filter wires are fine. Could this indicate a faulty mains filter or is it just a symptom of something else?

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

Thanks again. I removed the dryer timer switch and made sure the disconnected terminals didn't touch anything but the RCD trips right away.

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

Thanks for your suggestion. I've disconnected all the terminals from the heater housing and still have the problem.

Hoover W1120 washing machine short circuit

Hi all, my faithful old Hoover W1120 washer/drier has just developed its first problem in over 12 years. When I pressed the On switch to start a washing program it tripped the earth leakage switch of my fusebox. I reset the switch and tried the washer again, which worked normally. After...

Sounds like a plan then. Thanks again!

Lintel material type for underground use

Thanks. The work has to be done from above as there's very limited access to the side ( a 2.5' x 2' hole two feet deep) and any failed attempts would result in materials falling into and potentially blocking the stream. Precast lintels would be the easiest then. I was just concerned that...

Lintel material type for underground use

That was a quick reply :D I'd have no problem covering the beams with 100mm concrete but some of their lower surface would be directly above the stream so would that leave them at any significant risk?

Lintel material type for underground use

Hi all, I have a small stream crossing at a right angle underneath my driveway. The original conduit was a two foot diameter concrete pipe which has crumbled at one side of the driveway. I don't have the money to hire a digger and do the job properly. After excavating as much as I can to...

Correct nozzle for oil burning Stanley Superstar 80?

Thanks for the link, it makes very interesting reading. Given the awful inefficiency of the design the heat output is acceptable but I want to minimise the oil consumption if possible by finding the 'right' combination of nozzle and pressure.

Correct nozzle for oil burning Stanley Superstar 80?

Hi, can you tell me the correct nozzle size and type for my Stanley Superstar 80 (60,000 BTUs/17.5kW per hour net to water ) please? It uses an EOGB Inter 2000 burner. The Stanley brochure specifies .65 US, 80 degree solid but the installation guide specifies .60 US, 60 degree solid, both at...
