OK, so ser2net is not working correctly. SSH in to the Pi and restart ser2net because you need to restart the service after any changes to the YAML file: sudo /etc/init.d/ser2net restart Then try again to connect in PuTTy to port 10001 on 192.168.2.157 You need to see this response (ignore...

What response do you get when you try to connect in PuTTy to port 10001 on 192.168.2.157 as below?

It looks like you are making good progress! To test the Crestron I put COM3 on Crestron and connected to the panel using PuTTY and then the panel pushes the data out over the connection. In PuTTY (or your chosen terminal) connect to port 10001 on 192.168.2.157 and see if you get any response...

I can't see the writing on your PCB but I strongly suspect this is the Aux 12v connection where you should connect to?

*** DO NOT CONNECT THIS*** You have got the Pi round the wrong way 180 degrees, the pin that has the square mark is pin 1 - top right in your picture!!!

I'm not going to be around for a few days so I will just copy the text from my install notes below which should help you get up and running with the software side. They are just my own dirty notes which are clear to me but probably a mess to everyone else so if you need any more clarification...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

Sure, I just knocked up a diagram to help... With the level shifter you are only shifting the TXD and RXD lines from the 3.3v that the Pi wants to 5v that the panel wants. You can see from this the 5 wires going to the Pi and 3 wires going to the panel - excluding the DCDC module (you may...

Working on a software write up... When you say the DC converter do you mean the 12v to 5v convertor or the level convertor PCB?

YMMV with the actual install and construction of this hack but I would start by terminating the DC module as per my image a few posts back which you can then connect to the RPi header as below: Connect the grey Digi Modem cable and JAL-0001 COM Port adapter to the panel and connect Dupont...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

In terms of hardware you are going to need: Panel Digi Modem port extension lead - this is the grey lead that should come with panel if required or you can bodge with the Dupont leads. Comport adapter JAL-0001 - sometimes come with a SmartCom or try eBay, again you could bodge this with Dupont...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

Right... I've cracked it and yes this works no problem on COM3 with Crestron System and I have sent commands and received them back thorough PuTTY as image so it should actually work with Crestron. You may note that the connection is 19200 8N1 otherwise it will not work! This works even with...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

My RPi has been working rock solid on my panel since I installed it and I have even had to deploy another one on a Premier (non Elite) panel which had no monitoring, so that it could be monitored via Wintex whilst the building was empty for a prolonged period as a cheap and quick fix. The...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

UPDATE: DCDC module arrived and terminated as required. Connected to 12v Auxiliary power on the panel and checked module voltage output at 5.2v with no load (OK). Tested working and replaced cover. Diagnostics on the panel report that the system current is around 0.375A which is all...

I think we will be OK to run a DCDC buck convertor from the 12v aux supply to take down to 5v - this line is protected by a PTC so I'm just waiting to test.

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

The 12v rail for the JAL-001 is probably rated lower than required, but the battery connection could work. My concern is that I understand on the smaller panels 24/48/64 etc. the charging current is fixed at 0.3a and with the RPi having a consumption when running around that figure and peaking...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

Latest project update running on RPi02W and working well. I don't think I can power the RPi from the panel directly but I'm thinking of running this in a small external enclosure on top of the panel anyway to reduce the possibility of RFI to the WiFi so a separate PSU is not a deal breaker...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

I played around some more and I have now removed the USB adapter totally and I'm running direct to the RPi UART GPIO pins via a small level shifter (panel is 5V TTL and the RPi is 3.3v). Setting this up was a challenge with recent changes to the Raspberry OS! This appears to be rock solid so...

Texecom JAL-0001 ComPort+ Digi Modem Port Pinout?

I would certainly go for the Zero 2 for the small extra cost they are much more powerful. The only issue is powering it in the panel because the particular ESP module I was trying to use can be powered directly from the Texecom com port (12v) without any extra PSU.
