What on earth are you babbling on about?

I'm all for disability rights but....

Been chatting with my wife about this, (she is disabled), and she tells me every time she has booked a stay in a hotel, Including Premier and Travel Lodge), they have always asked if any of the party have any disabilities or special needs. We have always had ground floor accommodation. If they...

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

My adequate care is to make sure there is no chance of it tipping. Bit like not jacking your car up in a certain way. ;-)

Poorly installed skirting by flooring company - who's in the right?

Is that the original skirting they have put back or completely new stuff? The first pic is a complete mess. The second should have been scribed to the floor so there is no/minimal gap. The third seems to show a missing architrave on the left-hand side so he has judged, (badly), how wide it...

What could be the fault. Carbon monoxide!

When you say you use LPG, do you mean the big 47Kg bottle outside or the small canisters you get with camping stoves? Either way, you need to get a fully qualified engineer out to examine the whole appliance and let him decide what the problem and solution is.

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

By the time you get to the milk/beer crate stage it is quite near it's tipping point and could come crashing down on it's side while you have your hands inside. Place your waste hose into a washing up bowl and lay it as flat on the floor as possible to get most of the water out. For what little...

I'm all for disability rights but....

I never have, and never will, be anyone other than Conny. Used the same name for every single post/reply since joining in 2008. I don't go with this name changing on any forum I may be on. I would have thought you know me better than that Brig.

I'm all for disability rights but....

So sorry guys. I forgot to post the link. Very busy here with the builders in and hard to keep concentration. Here's the link from the BBC news website. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-67661591

replaced light switch - 2 way switch develops intermittent issue after a week

Possibility of insulation trapped under a screw but occasionally allowing a circuit?

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

If I showed my wife this, who has been physically disabled for over 30 years after breaking her neck when she was knocked down by a MALE driver), she would quite rightly have an apoplectic fit at such comments! Before I met her, she sectioned off a part of her garage and built, from scratch, a...

how bad does a house have to be before you wont work in it?

Each case is different, but if it was dirty, not vacuumed, cluttered where I was supposed to be working, then at the very least the cost would rise. I once went to price a house re-wire and looking under the bed I could see thick spider webs reaching from the floor, up the skirting board and...

I'm all for disability rights but....

Thats just it. There is no context as we are not getting the whole story. Did she say she was disabled when she booked? In which case, if she did, they should have offered a ground floor room. If none were available they should have said so. Maybe they did. We don't know. If she did state it...

I'm all for disability rights but....

why did she book/accept a first floor room in the first place? If the lift had been working when they arrived and then broke down, whilst they were upstairs, how did they intend to get out in the event of an evacuation order? Yes, these places must have 'rescue' chairs, but not all members of...

    Is this setup okay?

Fit one of these remote adaptor plugs into the socket. Plug the light direct into the adaptor. You have a small remote which turns that side of the double socket on and off. No need to be climbing ladders or fitting switches etc...

    Help with light switch wiring

Surely if they were in parallel they would both come on or go off at the same time? I suspect thet one of the blues is switched live and one of the browns is the other switched live. Have you tried the thin blue with the thick brown and the thin brown with the thick blue? Might be worth a try.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

Measure the length of the plug, transfer this length, plus 5mm, to the amount of drill bit projecting out of the chuck. This will ensure you get the depth right. Start with a small drill, say 3mm or 4mm, to drill a pilot hole. Smaller drills tend to drill straighter. Then move up in stages to...

Dug Hole - It filled with water.

My last home had a high water level due to the soil being very much clay. In some areas it was less then 2" below the surface and difficult to grow a decent patch of grass. As it was a rental property, I certainly wasn't going to get it dug down to 12" or more and then filled with top soil. The...

I don't like my kitchen shelf studs

The three little pins under the shelf will bed themselves in overtime when you start loading the shelves. Personally, when I look in a cupboard for something, I'm not looking at the shelf supports.
