Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

Like I said in my original post :P, I measured the flow rate from the hot tap at 5.5 lpm. The flow rate from the cold is much higher. I know the LED you mean, I will check that in the morning and report back. Thanks again for the help.

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them. Yes sorry it also has a gas pipe in the middle, and 4 water pipes, two to the left and two to the right  The far right pipe (which the filter was in) is, according to the manual, "heating return", and the one to the left is the "cold water...

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

Underneath the boiler I've got 4 main pipes that go up into the boiler. The two on the right have a loop of flexible pipe (like a flexible tap connector) going between them. These two pipes each have a stop valve and I closed both of them. Then I disconnected the loop from the far right pipe...

PTFE on compression joints or not???

I use it whenever I have a screw thread in a plumbing joint, compression or not, and I've never had a leak caused by it. But then I'm not a plumber!

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

The cold water inlet filter is the one I took out and checked - like I say totally clear. The only other filter mentioned in the manual is "Flow Sensor with Filter & Regulator" which I haven't checked. Should I have a go at getting this one out too? Incidentally I ran the heating and hot tap...

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

OK thanks. How would I go about getting rid of the air? Re the pressure, the mains cold water seems pretty high pressure judging by how it comes out of the taps, it exceeds 10 l/m easily.

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

OK thanks. I just isolated the boiler from mains and gas, drained it and checked the filter - it was totally clear of blockage. I turned the boiler back on after re-pressurising it to 1.5 bar and checked the hot water - it didn't go cold this time though it did fluctuate from very hot to...

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

Thanks for the reply. Pressure seems fine, the gauge on the boiler reads about 1.5. - though the flow rate seems a bit low to me, the boiler manual indicates it should be closer to 10. Would the other two issues not affect the central heating too? Or does that have a separate set of...

Potterton Gold HE - Water goes cold after a few seconds

Hi I have a Potterton Gold HE combi boiler. It has recently started to have a problem where the hot water will go cold after a few seconds of running. Some info which may be relevant: This happened suddenly, not gradually. One minute it was working, the next it was not. The fans/pumps...

    OK, thanks for your help.

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

Thanks ColJack. I assume the 10mm wiring from the unit to the shower is fine for a shower CU like this?

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

Yes I think time to get an electrician in. Even if the fuse won't blow I don't like the idea of running things outside of the recommended limits. "I guess you've got rewirable fuses?" Most of them are but the shower is on its own 30amp circuit and it uses small cylindrical fuses which...

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

I've also noticed the shower is either 8.5 or 9.5kW and this is on a 30amp circuit. I'm no electrician but by my reckoning those wattages equate to around 39 and 41 amps. This can't be a good thing? I assume I need to be using a shower closer to 6.5kW?

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

OK I didn't realise they were so cheap, I will pick one up and test. I have to admit I'm slightly nervous at the thought of poking around at wiring while it is live though!

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

No I don't - maybe the easiest thing for me to do then is just replace the pull cord and see what happens.

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

Right I took the cover off the box and everything looks OK to me. All of the cable sleeving is intact, no sign of melting or anything else. I made sure all the grub screws were tightened properly onto the cables and tried again but nothing has changed. The LED still lights up when both the...

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

Hi ColJack Thanks for your reply. I meant that damage caused by turning the shower off using the cord could be ruled out rather than other issues with the box. I understand your point about heat, I will switch the power off then take a look inside and see if I see anything amiss. Thanks...

Shower stopped working - electrical issue?

My shower was working fine this morning for my girlfriend. However when I went to use it after her, it seemed to have no power at all. It is an electric shower, and it has a pull-chord power switch affixed to the bathroom ceiling as well as a power button on the shower itself. When I pull...

Potterton Gold Combi HE Vibrating VERY Loud On Startup

I have a pretty new (6 months) Potterton Gold Combi boiler that is causing me headaches (literally). When I first turn the heating on, it fires up, is quiet for a minute or two then starts making a horrendous vibrating noise. This noise stops after another 2 minutes or so and does not come...

    removing outside light

I'm not an electrician but it sounds like the black wire is neutral hence the tripping when you connect it to live via the switch.
