Nice, like the thinking on that one. you live and learn. :)

Boiler gives really hot water when flush toilet!

Try mains as dad says any good? This will of course affect the flow to the WC and anything off the mains but good for a test. On the right hand side is a lever valve this will do the same job as mains throttling at stopcock but for boiler only and will affect the flow rate to the hot tap...

    Cleaning a rain water harvester

Hi, looked at submersible pumps and seems what I need however its getting that last bit out that's the problem. What is the depth of a submersible before the float switch cuts in or depth if disabled. Thanks will look at M/mart for options.

Boiler gives really hot water when flush toilet!

Yellow is gas tap, DO NOT restrict that. Your dad is on the right wave length restrict the flow on inlet (stop cock) if that works put re-stricter in incoming mains to boiler. When you flush the loo that's exactly what's happening.

    Cleaning a rain water harvester

Anyone cleaned out a rain water harvester. there is approx 12ins of sludge at the bottom mainly pollen which makes the water a horrible grey for flushing loos. Using an ordinary suction pump that needs priming with water appears could create problems as it starts to suck air/ water mixture...

How important is radiator location in a room?

Curtains: 100mm from the floor, 100mm from the curtain pole to the ceiling and wall and the "convector" will work well under a window. I feel another thread coming on, why I don't put TRVs in. I give up. Newton was wrong all along and professor Stocho discovers new theory. The British...

How important is radiator location in a room?

from VOGEL&NOOT specification. In accordance with BSEN 442: 1997, the heat output figures in this leaflet have been derived from tests made with top and bottom same side connection (T.B.S.E.). When bottom opposite end connections are used (B.O.E.), there will be a small reduction in heat...

How important is radiator location in a room?

Sacho Only radiated heat as u have almost stopped the convection heat. Rads efficiency next to useless. Curious: do you box rads in as well. Did you know, that having manufactures side panels and grills on top reduce heat output by approx 8%. Did you know, by having top and...

How important is radiator location in a room?

I think Stocho and JohnD need to go back to school first and then collage, both have a chronic failure of understanding the basics of physics.

How important is radiator location in a room?

Well I am with Dan who know his physics. Radiators do not radiate much heat, less than 15%, they are misnamed they are convectors. Which means they need the movement of air to work at max efficiency. The best position ( for even room warmth) is under windows as warm air rises with the...

    Leaking toilet syphon

 fiddle me, im slow then? Its a drop valve by the way and the cistern looks siliconed to the wall and the connecting bolts are bodged and hope they are stainless steel! 20mins oh well  don't forget the coffee and donut.

Cistern Lid Problem - dodgy bathroom installation...

Nit picking IMHO you will have to compromise and lower it, or ....... beat hole in sloping roof, better still put a dormer in to accommodate extra height, ditch lid and put hardboard over the Victorians and people after used to do that when the lid broke seen it many times when apprentice so has...
