Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

Doing any of what you have listed would then not be giving a fair comparison between the old & new boiler would it. To conduct a fair test the operation parameters should remain the same. I maintain that most of the efficiency ratings that are bandied around are are misleading, they will be...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

The boiler is on a programmer with the same operation times set as the old boiler had, the room stat is set to the same settings we used with the old boiler, in my book that's the same operation so I would think I should be seeing some reduced gas usage if the boiler is more efficient like they...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

I was expressing my own personal findings which are that the 20% (minimum) more efficient boiler wasn't saving us any money. (I compared gas usage not bill price) I stand corrected, apparently there is a weather compensation kit available :o http://www.potterton.co.uk/1053.htm...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

Well so far this Potterton has outperformed my mates Vaillant that was fitted a month later, so far he's had a new expansion vessel and the valve block had to be replaced as one of the plastic pipes had cracked! Why do installer love Vaillants so much...do you get a free T-shirt or something...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

We only replaced our boiler because of the scrappage scheme that came along, a friend of mine who is gas safe registered fitted it for me at cost so I ended up getting the boiler cheap. I believe that in the near future our homes will have some sort of tax imposed on them based on their it's...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

Fair enough but if the new boiler is 20% more efficient you would still expect to see some saving. Unfortunately the boiler we have Potterton Gold (don't Laugh) doesn't have provisions for compensation control. I would be very very surprised if tahir2 managed to achieve the 30% saving that...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

None of them. As we replaced a less than 70% efficient boiler with one that is said to be 91% efficient (say 20% minimum difference) I would have expected to see at least some reduction in gas used....maybe it does use a tiny bit less but not really noticeable on the bills...certainly not a...

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

Even with those controls I don't believe for one minute they are anywhere as efficient as they would have you believe. It's just like the MPG figures that they give for vehicles, you can never achieve them either....mumbo jumbo I tell you  Cheers.

Replacing old Baxi floorstanding boiler with a HE Combi

Don't believe for one minute any of that high efficiency mumbo jumbo, we replaced our old band G combi boiler (below 70% efficiency) & replaced it with a band A (above 90% efficiency) condensing combi 2 years ago, our usage has remained unchanged but the bills have not changed in the slightest...

    Plumbing in new toilet

If the house has cast waste pipes it's probably old enough to have a combined drainage system. This means that the rain water from the gutters & the foul water from toilets & sinks go down the same drain. A separate system keeps the fresh rain water separate from the foul. If a combined...

Flexible WC waste pipe through wall

Why didn't they use a diamond core drill to make the holes, then it would have been nice and neat with no patching in necessary afterwards. Cheers.

    Information on manifolds (central heating)

The 22mm pipes that supply the manifolds will be extended and new manifolds will be fitted, that's if the new rads are going to be fed via manifolds. A more pressing concern, is the boiler capable of supplying the extra load of the new rads! Cheers.

Replacing gutters Fascias need doing too?

The problem with painting anything these days is that the paint is rubbish and doesn't last, even the premium paints that are supposed to let the wood breath and flex with the wood and all that lot, start to fall off after year or two, what you need is a pot of paint with a big dose of lead in...

Accidentally ran lighting with switch cable. Now what?

Preferably is the key word here....strapping wires for 2 way lighting isn't identifiable throughout its length and more often than not it isn't sleeved at the terminations either. I can't see how sleeving the wires wouldn't be acceptable. Cheers.

    Extending a socket

From your first picture it looks like the 2 cables come in from the right hand side, why not carefully cut a hole in the wall at the corner and see if you can find the cables, if you can then you could drop them down in the corner and then put the new socket there or cut another hole at the...

Replacing gutters Fascias need doing too?

£320 for guttering and down pipes etc sound expensive to me, shop around, Google "Building Plastics" in your area, these places sell guttering and plastic facias etc, and they will be a lot cheaper. Failing that you could order your guttering online from somewhere like Plastics Express, I used...
