3 year old roof leaking at rafters and inbetween rafters

The tiles look well laid and unless you've got one missing or broken they won't leak. Check the flashing at the bottom of the rooflights: with profile tiles sometimes the lead forms a channel behind them and the water flows to the sides into the roof rather than down the tiles. Check also...

    New extension roof, basic questions.

Not strictly true; when pitches get above 45 degrees then each tile needs to be fixed, but the vast majority of roofs are between about 17 and 45 degrees and it is true that the lower pitches require more fixings; it's all about the wind suction effect; the same force that keeps aeroplanes up.

    setting out slates ,advice needeed

I agree with you, I think that must be a typo and should read 'minimum' 12mm. With GRP valleys, the valley boards are a bit of an overkill, provided the troughs are well supported then noggins between the rafter are suitable. Make sure you also have noggins to support the batten ends as well.

    setting out slates ,advice needeed

Treat each roof area separately, don't try to line up the courses. Work out the number of courses required and set the battens so that they are all at the same gauge, that will ensure that the finished roof looks 'right'

    re slating leaking roof

Can't be absolutely sure just by looking at photos but IMO they are asbestos slates. That 'dimpled' effect on the back is quite characteristic of an asbestos slate. However the type of asbestos used in slates is classed as low risk. (IMO no risk - unless you grind and sniff!) One thing...

Aaah, New Roof Leaking. Can't Understand Why!

The flashing at the side of the chimney may be okay, you will only be able to tell by lifting the lead and tile to check the amount of cover. Having said that, a gap like that is not desirable and it could have been dressed tighter. With regard to the leaks, are you sure you have the 75mm...

Open valley - slate and a half?

I'm a little confused tudorroofing. Those pics you've posted also show valleys done without slate-and-halves. Is it your work?

Twin wall stainless steel roof brace kit

The best result is if you get a leadworker to make them up for you. Look at this. 3rd and 4th photos show weathering slates where the pipe is welded at an angle to suit the roof pitch The lead slates with neoprene centres (flexislates) are also suitable and available off the shelf but...

Twin wall stainless steel roof brace kit

What you suggest is probably workable but depending on the thickness of the bar it may not be rigid enough. You can fix a thicker section bar or rod to the rafters and provided it comes out through the roof tiles horizontally (or pointing slightly downwards) it would be relatively easy to...

Rain drips down my fascia boards...

That fascia doesn't look new (?) If the fascias were replaced by the previous owner how can you be sure that the spacers weren't there originally and there's always been water getting behind the gutter? An eaves tray as suggested should help

    batten size for roof tile

According to the BS Standards 25 x 50 is recommended, but 25 x 38 was used for years without problem. The new standard was brought in because of an increase in lower quality timber coming into the market. IIWY I wouldn't be unduly concerned

    Eaves on a hipped roof

The reason for the felt support is to stop any water that gets on the underlay ponding behind the fascia and finding its way into the soffit. It is a fairly recent improvement and is still not used in 100% of cases. I would not bother trying to change your existing construction - just ensure...

    Eaves on a hipped roof

Your interpretation of what it is and what it does is correct. 9mm would be fine and the width needs to be enough to make sure it has a fall, normally about 150mm is sufficient. However, most of the time a plastic 'felt support tray' is used instead of the ply; the tray not only supports and...

    warm roof construction

A VCL is an essential part of a warm roof construction. It goes above the decking and below the insulation. Single Ply can be mechanically fixed on top of the insulation without the need for another layer of ply.

Correct instalation of ridg vent tiles

Not all ridge vents come with a spigot and the spigot only has a use when connecting to SVP or extract. The ridge board does not necessarily need to be cut but the underlay definitely does, it may be cut but just difficult to see.

    rosemary tiles

Unless you have come to a previous agreement they are yours, but you will have to strip them off carefully, keep your roof watertight, carry the tiles to the ground, stack them carefully and then load them onto the salvage merchant's lorry; or you can pay the roofer extra to do that for you...
