    Cooker Hood Connection

Can the connection to power a cooker hood be taken as a spur off the supply side of 45amp cooker switch and plug socket using 2.5mm T&E? The switch/socket in question is on 6mm T&E straight from the CU.

    Metal faced sockets and earthing

no worries i'll just do both, it just makes it a bit less fiddley if there isnt a wire connected to the back box

    Metal faced sockets and earthing

Is it ok to not run earth to the terminal on a back box sunk in to the wall on metal faced sockets as long as it is run to the terminal on the socket itself so that the face is earthed? I assume that the contact between the screws, the face plate and the back box mean that if the front is...

    12v lighting wire size

Thank you, that clears things up. I'm beginning to think that my best bet is to buy 7 more transformers and run one light off each, at least that way i get 9 lights all the same brightness.

    12v lighting wire size

OK I think i've worked this out. The last metre of the 5 only has 20W of load on it, the 3-4 metre length has 40W and so on. This means that only the first metre of the cable from the transformer to the first light has 100W of load on, meaning that 1mm or 1.5mm would be ok. Does this make...

    12v lighting wire size

Sorry I was replying to the other fella who asked whether they ran in parallel off of one cable or whether there was a cable running to each light. The setup with the cable in the kit is one cable with light connectors every 70 centimetres.

    12v lighting wire size

So surely there is something seriously wrong with them selling me a kit which has 1mm cable in it when if you put the figures in to the calculator it comes up with 4mm?

    12v lighting wire size

no, thats the whole point, all of this cabling, including the3.5m wire that came in the kit goes on the 12v output side of the transformer. EDIT: I've just read your edit.

Well thats put my mind at rest seeing as i've already done half the wiring! I dont understand where i've gone wrong with the calculation though. The load is 100W if there are 5 20W lights attached right? Cheers very much for the help though

    12v lighting wire size

I bought some 12v 20W mini recessed spots which came in packs of 5 with one transformer and an already made up cable which is 1mm2 twin. I cant use the cable that was included because it is too short. If I make up my own cables what diameter cable do I need to use because the total run to...

    Overly deep plaster

Help! I've just retiled my entire bathroom and i've just got to the point where i'm going to fit the sink (a pedastal type) to the wall. This is where the problem begins. I've just merrily drilled through two of my tiles and discovered undernearth a rather thick layer if plaster. On of the...

    Leaking toilet inlet

I've decided to try and work out whether the leak is coming from inside the cistern, or is coming up the thread from the connector to the water pipe. Once the missus has finished in the shower I'll turn off the water and disconnect the pipe with a full cistern and see if i still get leakage...

    Expansion gaps for plywood

I am replacing the floorbaords in my bathroom with 18mm plywood to give a nice level surface to tile on. My Question is: Do I need to leave expansion gaps between the boards and if so how much?

    Laying Tiles on Floorboards

I reckon i'll do that then, because of the shape of the room I can get away with only one join between the two sheets which would run along a joist down the middle of the room. Cheers very much.
