Hi, I usually put sealant int hole from underneath then tighten nut ensuring excess is spread around nut. Leave for half an hour then connect to supply. Hope this works.

Hi, Yes it is wise to cut out the plaster for bath to fit in. This will ensure when tiled and sealed that water won't escape down sides of bath on wall side. Hope its a help.
