Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

No worse than your habit of spending time on this forum giving useless replies. (Actually your habit is much worse, given the sheer difference in volume.) If it isn't some shortform for "electrician" (a reasonable assumption given that I had said that an electrician had done the work) say what...

    Pullcord switch removal/cap off.....how???

You could sink a plasterboard back box into the ceiling and do whatever connections necessary to the wires inside that. This would just leave a blanking plate on the ceiling.

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

I assumed DI was just a fancy abbreviation used amongst the electrician inner circle. What does it stand for? I have a shiny new NICEIC certificate if that's what bothers you.

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

Not round here. Done in under 2 hours. So the first to quote wanted £350 an hour; or maybe he wasn't very skilled and expected to spend two days over it.

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

Since this I have been lurking and noticed a lot of frustration from other people (justified in many cases) hoping to get straightforward pointers rather than insult and libel. No, I did not like the prices and not as a result of telling the electricians what to do. I mentioned the first...

    Skimming textured ceiling

Splutter... That would mean paying somebody. Talking about doing it properly, the house was built in 1973. The only way of doing a proper job would be to reduce it to hardcore and start again.

    Skimming textured ceiling

No, I got to the point of one coat of finish. So it seems I need to start again. Oh well. Supplementary question. Doing the first coat took 4 lots of 5kg. My lack of experience meant that by the time I was nearing the end of a bucket it was starting to go off. Add the cleaning and mixing and...

    Skimming textured ceiling

Thanks all for your replies. Using a grit bonding coat meant the first coat went on easily (today). Unfortunately I wasn't able to start a second coat immediately so the next question is - When I get back to it tomorrow, should the second coat still go on ok or is there another step I need to...

    Skimming textured ceiling

I am looking to skim a lightly textured ceiling (probably rollered artex) that has several coats of emulsion. Looking through other threads it seems the process is to pva, use a bonding coat then the skim. I'm assuming the emulsion is already providing a suction barrier so would I need one or...

    testing between live and neutral

Treat a multimeter purely as device to show a fault is present. It is no good at showing that a fault is absent. So, when measuring (power off!) between separate conductors (ie, L-E, L-N, N-E), a low reading indicates a fault; a high reading does not prove lack of fault. For example, in a...

Rechargeable batteries is it a con?

Yes, it's a delta V charger... Out if interest, have you ever measured the result of your charger? I have a Maplin ADC/PIO USB board & cobbled up a discharge logger in order to find a matched set of 4. Only possible with trickle charging.

Rechargeable batteries is it a con?

How many charger manufacturers understand how it should be done? I have some 1800mAh cells and my delta V charger only gets them halfway. Cell matching is also extremely poor so a perfectly good cell that's short of charge is at risk of damage by reverse charge when used in a pack. I don't know...

    Flickering lights

To expand on my reply. A few years ago we had this. I doubted it was inside the house. Trouble being it wasn't initially bad enough to demonstrate to anybody and it was several months before it became intolerable and reliable. It was just the branch to our house and the pavement had to be dug up.

    Flickering lights

Shrug. I expect the supplier knows where to pass the call At least I gave an answer. This forum is more like entering the Monty Python Argument Sketch.

Talk to your supplier nicely; it could be their problem.

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

I haven't mentioned price before because it's not really relevant since there is a general principle of not paying a skilled rate for unskilled parts of the work. And no, I haven't told him what to do; I rashly assumed that coming here would help ongoing discussion. But it seems that some would...

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

Indeed it is. I was asking whether it is permitted. The question was answered; making inference because a question is asked is unnecessary and stupid. I see people post here saying "I have messed up, how do I get out of it?" and compare the responses to my "I find something not right and am...

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

The system provides electricity where it's wanted so there is no reason for doing anything to it other than for possible safety issues that I have warned other flat owners about. They would rather spend money elsewhere on cosmetic improvements. It is amazing that the mere act of asking questions...

Does this switch have a fuse? (part 2)

So you're saying it is not permitted? OK. Your comments otherwise really make you an obnoxious and unhelpful person. Given the quotes and the uselessness of this forum, I can't help thinking the best course would be to just forget the matter, leave the system in its present mess and a...
