    airing cupboard wiring query

Chaps, thanks for your posts. Yes, the T+E is fed by a 13A fused spur and feeds a twin socket in a storage loft (v rarely used, perhaps 1 hour spread over a month, max load 1000watts). Shower pump is 2.8A continuous. Transformer is perhaps 1A if that. The clocks are 6 watts each. In the...

    airing cupboard wiring query

A have a T+E cable running up the back wall of the airing cupboard feeding two mains outlets in the loft. It’s in turn fed from a fused spur attached to the ring main. I would like to install a shower pump (220v) and a low voltage transformer (for 24v supplementary underfloor heating in the...

how to adjust or rehang a slightly sagging gate

Easy for you to say! :) Not sure if they were set in concrete initially and there's block paving around the post which makes checking not quite straightforward. Do I have any options other than to try to reset the post? I'm guessing I don't...

OK, more photos as requested. The top of the gates when shut where the drop is quite visible: The top of the gates when almost shut: the top hinge from the inside (not much to see really!): the top hinge from the outside: and the bottom of the gates when closed: I had...

how to adjust or rehang a slightly sagging gate

Thanks for the quick reply. There are pegged mortise and tenon joints at 6 points where the horizontal members meet the vertical ones. The braces are just nailed in place. Here's a photo. Should I remove the braces and trim them as required and reinstall them?

how to adjust or rehang a slightly sagging gate

A couple of years ago I had some gates fitted, each about 6' by 6'. They seemed well made with cross pieces, pegged, etc. However, one has sagged by about 1/2" or so and rubs against the other when closed. The hinges used are v similar to...

rough cost estimate for replacing clouded double glazing

My house has what seems like well made double glazing units that were installed about 16 years ago. A few of the units have started to cloud over. Can anyone provide any insight into what it will cost to have new double glazing panels installed into the existing frames? Typical sizes are 15"...

    underfloor heating - any good?

I was in a very energy efficient flat recently that had underfloor heating. It was lovely in that there was a nice warm floor for bare feet and no apparent cold spots or drafts; just nice even warmth through out. The flat is quadruple glazed (!!) and very air tight; when the kitchen extractor...

insulating an aluminium framed DG sliding door

We have an aluminium framed sliding glass door as fitted when the house was built 16 or so years ago. It's double glazed but it would appear that the frame is hollow aluminium. This time of year there can be heavy condensation on the frame to the point where small puddles form on the laminate...
