    Draughty Upvc Window internal trim

Tip for using foam...It will go everywhere if you are not careful....spray water on your window frame first, this will minimize the foams ability to stick on your frame...where you don't want it. Once you have foamed the gaps then spray water again and it will stop the foam expanding much...

UPVC door dead bolt locks become out of line, Please Help.

Sounds like the door has dropped. Close the door and see if the corner weld of the door lines up with the weld on the frame. If the door weld is lower than the frame weld, then the door has dropped and the glass will need to be removed and racked again(racked =putting plastic packers...

    DIY Sash Window Renovation?

@ Ladylola.....You can use caulk outside if it's an external one...what I should have said was.I wouldn't use it instead of putty....I can only imagine trying to get good clean lines using caulk if you have to smooth it in more than once :-)

    DIY Sash Window Renovation?

If I was doing the job and looking at that cill,it's an easy choise.Take out the whole cill and replace. Once you can remove a cill by only using your hands it's what we call in the trade totally f****d :-) If it was only the front part of the cill,up to where the inside window closes then...

    Double glazing security

Already really hard to take out glass, even if its beaded from outside....It is possible but requires time and effort...most thieves aren't into that. All super glue will do is get all over your windows and make them look a right mess. Old style patio doors are easier to break into than...

    DIY Sash Window Renovation?

Most of the parting beads in my area are 8mm x25mm.I have come across the odd 9mmx25mm but not often. It can go up to 8mm x 30mm depending on the overall size of the frame...usually over 3m in height. Usually the parting bead, inside staff bead and outside edge of your box are in a line...If...

    DIY Sash Window Renovation?

Just be careful using the hot air gun....the idea is to heat the putty up,not set fire to the sash :-) To get a good smooth finish is just practice i'm afraid...Have a look on youtube to see how it's done. Most of the videos on there seem to be american,so I use a different putty knife(one...

    DIY Sash Window Renovation?

Hi, Restoring sash windows is what I do. :-) If you are changing the glass anyway, then if it breaks take it out and use a hot air gun to soften putty(use a mask with vapor protection as the paint on the frame will probably have lead primer/undercoat)and do outside. Don't use caulk on the...

    Rust inside double glazing window

If it's the opening window,I bet the screws that hold the hinge in place have rusted...Easy fix...take screw out and replace with ones that won't rust.If you live close to the sea the hinge screws tend to rust much faster. Or it could be the screw that holds the frame in place...if they fixed...

    Crown glass v horticultural glass

Phone up all the local double glazing firms and ask if they are removing any old box sash windows in your area and go and salvage a few of the old sashes and have that re-cut to size...remember old glass can be a b***h to cut so grab a few sashes to be on the safe side :-)

    Gap between double-glazing and frame...

Easy to check if the frame is twisted. Put a level on one side of the window and then the other. Even if the window is not 100% upright if its out by the same amount both sides you shouldn't have any problems....either(leaning in/out). If one side is upright and the other is either...

    Sash window advice

Hi, In my opinion 24mm units are fine for uPVC but look C**p in wooden sashes. I made sashes for 4 windows last year and fitted 4/8/4 argon filled units with the unit fitted from inside,so you don't have any putty to worry about...The outside of the sashes had a beveled edge so it...

    double glazed sah windows

Hi, First thing you need to do is make sure the new springs you bought are for the same weight of sash as the old ones. The springs come in weight ranges like 20 pounds to 30 pounds, 30lbs to 40lbs..etc.....you can adjust the tension on the springs by using a spring balance tool...this...
