    Finishing clear pine doors.

Thanks for the reply dcdec. As far as staining goes, is it pretty straightforward as in apply as recommended? I've heard you can get patchy finishes on staining pine and something called a pre-stain conditioner is recommended. And is it important to match stain and varnish according to...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Yeah they definitely do colour mixing, I was looking in to off whites earlier this year for my sister's house. This shop does it http://www.decoratingwarehouse.co.uk/buy/woodstains/primers-preservers/sikkens-rubbol-bl-satura/1317

    Finishing clear pine doors.

Hi all. Does anyone have any experience of finishing doors like this? I have a few to do and am not sure about what to do. I have read that as they're laminated engineered doors, it's not the same as doing solid wooden doors. I've never done staining/oiling/varnishing etc before just...

What if I don't denib between coats of Sikkens Satura BL?

This is how I've done it and it has been fine. Rubbol BL primer >>> 6/18 hours wait >>> top coat>>> 6/18 hours wait >>> top coat >>> let it harden for a week or two. I finished my sister's entire house this year doing it exactly like this, went there yesterday and when I tried to scrape off the...

What if I don't denib between coats of Sikkens Satura BL?

Is this the waterbased version? if so.... ...in my experience, and I can only speak for myself, the paint adheres just fine if you do the follow up coat the next day (or sooner). After a fortnight it will have hardened fully and you won't be able to get it off without something sharp. I...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

As joe-90 says Dulux Decorator Centre is your best bet but you can probably get it delivered online for cheaper if you can wait a couple of days. It is excellent stuff BTW, I've used it loads now, done a few houses in it and you can't tell it's waterbased, flows like oil and hardens really...

    Weird internal damp problem.

From what I understand it is an old house and not cavity. I think it's solid brick.

    Weird internal damp problem.

All I was told is that the plaster allows the wall to breathe and resists salts or something. If what you're saying is correct, will it dry out on it's own or is it going to be another costly fix you think?

    Weird internal damp problem.

OK. Thanks for the help guys. The wall is cold. As for what is on the other side, on that pic, right hand side patch is outside, left hand side is internal porch area. That wall is still cold though because the porch area is not as warm as the rest of the house. Pretty sure...

    Weird internal damp problem.

Thanks for the reply, ree. I see. The plinth was actually knocked off and rebuilt. Not sure if that makes a difference. It also has no coating (paint on it). There is no damp underneath the patch either, so if it was the plinth would it not be the case that it sucks up the moisture and...

    Weird internal damp problem.

Alright guys. Thanks for your replies. OK, here a couple of pics of the outside area on the other side of the damp patch. The damp patch would be slightly higher than the window sill and to the right, by my estimation. Hope this is helpful. The little patch to the left in...

    Weird internal damp problem.

Hi all. Last September we had a damp problem in a section on our bay window. We had a damp company come in and take off the plaster, inject a chemical damp course, and replace the plaster with some sort of special damp plaster (not too sure of the exact name). They also re-built the plinth...

Need to fit architrave on uneven door frames - what tool?

That's a cracking post pinenot, probably the clearest guide I've managed to find on the net. Really appreciate it. I think I might still go for corner blocks as the look is actually pretty smart, but if i can't find the exact size I want I'm a lot more confident about getting the job done...
