Place a hydrometer on the floor and measure the relative humidity around different parts of the house and compare. Forget the Moisture meter unless of course you are a surveyor!

    Chimney

My floor also appears to have a copper gas pipe in the concrete. If I start hitting the floor with a breaker, am I correct in assuming the gas pipe is going to become unsafe, or how would you rate my chances of remiving the concrete around it without distorting the pipe?

    Chimney

I took out a chimney recently, and knocked out hearth to level the floor and filled the gap with a strong mortar. Since then I'm getting moisture rising up where the old hearth was. I can bash out the mortar, but what would you suggest to DPC the old hearth? How should it be sealed/dpced...

Outside wall also looks OK. I stuck the hydrometer on the floor, 80%. The room does suffer from damp in...

    Damp in the floor, suggestions?

I put two objects on a patch that was registering high levels on the hydrometer, and when I removed them it appears to have gone black (see pic) indicating damp is getting sucked up. Which would account for the high level on the hydro. Do you have suggestions for a course of action here? What...
