    plastering training

:D Good English and maths website for plastering students. There are some online mini tests to assess your level. I think level 2 maths is around GCSE C. This year on level one plastering at the college I attended 2 out 3 students struggled with basics skills. http://www.move-on.org.uk/

Daniel :) You don’t want to show up for interview in jeans and trainers. You want smart shoes and trousers, preferably shirt and tie. Pleased your in the door.

Good idea. I've got a couple of frames and was thinking of nailing a couple of pallets together. Then I could get an angle then.

    plastering training

HI Newbee, You have a good approach. Having words pass in front of your eyes is not always the best way of learning. Reviewing what you’ve learned, preferably regularly is a useful way to remember, like you say Newbie. On the application form it’s important to get it right. You’ll...

    plastering training

Marshaltowns are better made trowels, Daniel, but they are more expensive than Ragni. Marshaltowns are worn in along the edge of the trowel which gives immediate better when skimming. If the trowels not worn in it will leave lines when you are skimming until the trowels worn in. If...

    plastering training

Scobs student guide to plastering courses. I’ve noticed that some student don’t appear to be very self reliant (apart from bringing their lunch money) It’s creates a more favorable impression if the student brings his or her own pens and writing paper to class. Get yourself a note book and...

    plastering training

I’d collect two application forms for each course. Then you use one form for practice. The personal profile section provides opportunity to sell yourself and your undoubted enthusiasm for plastering. Remember, best handwriting and mint condition application form. Submit your application...

    plastering training

Some young students go to college solely for an EMA (Educational Maintenance Allowance 16-19). £30-00 weekly. Watch out for the disruptive ones, they’ll can drag you down. I would avoid any village idiots like the plague. (Go and walk around the shops at lunchtime) If you have any basic...

    plastering training

After studying plastering at college this year this would be my opinion on college courses. If you decide to do a college course enrol early and get your place, don’t leave it until last minute if possible, where you will have a lot more applicants and more competition for places. Do your...

Thanks matt/Micilin. I suppose you got to make mistakes to learn. I bet you learn when its costing you money. Did you do a college course or was it with a private company, matt, if you don't mind me asking. What did you cover (besides walls and plasterboard.) Mark

The plaster is loose around and above the gas fire. I remember you saying something about some inexperienced plasterers using normal plaster around high heat areas. When I stripped the wall paper off the old electrical socket holes where covered in electrical tape, not very good really.Thanks...

    skimming living room

Hello :) I'm thinking of skimming my living room. I have previously painted the room but it doesn't hide the poor plastering finish. Above the fire place appears to be some hair line marks and the plaster feels loose in places. I can't remove the radiators. Thought about using a pipe...

    mixing PVA with multi-finish

   Quite funny. For a learner it is enough just getting the mix right using water and plaster.

    mixing PVA with multi-finish

We haven't done any skimming for the last couple of weeks because of the weather so they say. So it has been a bit boring. Hopefully there will be some practical tomorrow. Its good reading here. I didn't know what rendering was when I started. Still don't know all the terms . I suppose...

    mixing PVA with multi-finish

I’ve also been told that peeing in it helps as well but I’ve not tried it; probably not a good idea to let the customer see you mixing up though  some interesting points for a student plasterer but I think I'l pass on that one.
