    conservatory floor slab

Surely the floor is protected from condensation by reducing the U value so that the temp doesn't drop below the dew point? If you have the floor insulation designed to achieve this then I don't see that the position of the dpm is relevant. It's the temp of the floor that is relevant. I've got...

    Moving a toilet

When bedding the pan onto the concrete floor my advice is not to use a sand/cement mix. I've seen a lot of pans cracked because of the stresses set up. I use finish plaster, but I expect others will post on their preferred bedding method.

That just isn't true jeds, and the insulation can go above the concrete if wanted.

    home electrics changing consumer unit

Lectrician, I agree with what you say about Jonas not appreciating that the tails are live but the service fuse is just a fuse and there is no reason why a competent diy person shouldn't pull it. There is no skill involved, it just needs an appreciation that live parts are exposed with it out...

    Boundary Dispute - Advice Sought

This looks like a case of trespass. Look here and scroll down to 'Trespass - Walls & Fences' If you are a member of RAC they have a very helpful legal dept; it's not just for motoring law. I've used them myself - big help.

Eddie & jeds, you're both right. The dpm can go either under or over the polystyrene; it doesn't matter.

    Heavy duty cavity fixings

I assume you are referring to a dry-lined block wall when you say cavity wall? The one reason I don't like dry-lining is when you have to fix things to it. I have recently been working on some dry-lined houses and what I do is mark the position of the radiator brackets and cut away the...

    Removing metal windows

Just to say be careful if you are disc cutting the frame. I was renovating a house with metal frames which were fixed direct to brick. The first 6 came out ok by cutting through the frame but the last one must have been under tension. It was a window in the stairwell so I was holding the cutter...

Are Push Fit connectors any good?

A friend of mine works for a heating firm that uses plastic pipe and push fit connectors for most of their work. After installation they always pressure test the entire system and any bad joints will show up. Hepworth insist that the pipe is always cut with the proper pipe cutter and not a...

    Product search

If you make your own switch you would have to fix an earth stud to the plate and then wouldn't you have to submit it to the BSI for approval. Don't the regs insist on a BS or CE mark?

    separate oven hob wiring

Ok but I wasn't suggesting it was against regs because I can see you know your stuff. My kettle is 3.1kw and yes, it's not on for long but I do use cold fill for the washing machine . I don't know the rating but must be 2kw min though. I suppose dishwasher is used after oven is off.

    separate oven hob wiring

Isn't option 1 pushing it a bit though. The oven and kettle are often used at same time, so if the washing machine is used as well the ring is overloaded isn't it? You would fit a 3kw immersion on it's own circuit so why not a 3kw oven.

Zanussi 1257S W/D Fills Up When Off

The water board have confirmed that the cold water pressure is ok but what about the hot? If it's a bungalow then the pressure may be too low and it's filling through the hot hose. I've only had Hotpoint and Hoover machines but if the flow is too low you may need to remove the flow regulator...
