I've been unfair to BT; it looks like they've changed their minds. Have a look here I think they can only block UK numbers and not international ones. It's a step in the right direction anyway.

    cold door salesman

The insulation grants are usually dependent on receipt of some sort of benefit. Your wife may have signed to say that she is, without realising it. Have a look at the warmfront site

    dataline dialler

Pip, you gave some good links to some decent info' ok, but I was trying to say there is some good advice on this site. I have first hand experience of downloading a premium rate dialler after a visit to a 'girly' site  , and successfully removing it. I've just read ohmygod's first post...

Pip said: True, but that applies to everything. There are guys who post on here who clearly do not understand how to wire a light switch but get some good advice on here and learn how to do it. Isn't that what this forum is for? If someone 'knew what they were about' then they wouldn't ask...

Replacing Cracked Wooden Lintel with Concrete

I must admit I hadn't looked at the pics. I remembered you saying this in the french door thread: so assumed the joists were going into the window wall. If the new lintel only takes the weight of the blocks/bricks then it's ok.

    Bath seal

It's probably not the seal that's faulty. It's most likely a plastic bath not installed correctly and flexing too much. I always fit a 2"x1" batten on the wall all round the bath and adjust the feet so that the edge of the bath just touches it. You should install the bath when it's full of water...

removing a old fireplace (not so old though old-ish)

Come on Tex, be fair; Andy is studying electronics not joinery. Perhaps his dad helped him with the underpinning?

    Electrocuted by a screw.

There is certainly room for improvement. However, the 'patient' may get some comfort from knowing that he will be able to sue the state for medical mispractice.

    Electrocuted by a screw.

Very good BAS. :) Lethal injection doesn't appear to be the humane method that it was hoped to be. This is just one example.

Agree with kendor. Spybot should show the dialler in a folder in the Registry. Go into the Registry and delete the folder and it's contents.

    Electrocuted by a screw.

In the USA an execution by the electric chair requires that the sponge of the headpiece is soaked in a saturated salt solution, ordinary tap water is no good. It is interesting to note that electrocution has been rejected as a form of euthanasia for animals in the United States. The Franklin...

removing a old fireplace (not so old though old-ish)

I've removed a few which have been reinforced. They usually have a metal 'ear' each side near the top which is screwed to the wall, then plastered over. Chisel the plaster away each side and have a look for them.

Replacing Cracked Wooden Lintel with Concrete

I don't know the loading on the lintel but I think I understand that the roof joists are supported by the inner lintel. It doesn't look like you have enough brickwork above the inner lintel to use a 65mm one. You would be in effect putting point loads rather than a uniformly distributed load on...

    Beware of cash machine.

I do think it is encouraging to see that society is evolving a more intelligent, nicer, politer criminal though. Let’s hope that this sort of ingenuity is replacing the violent criminal who bursts into the bank with a sawn-off shotgun; very frightening I would think. Where can you buy that sort...

    Electrocuted by a screw.

It could have been the frame of the shower enclosure. If it was aluminium it could have been live but not earthed until the guy touched it while showering?

    Extension wall material

OK, thanks Andy but I thought from your post here that it was a facing brick extension. ....or are you building two extensions?
  19. M

    Extension wall material

Just my opinion, but I always think an extension should match the rest of the house and ideally look as if it was built at the same time. That means using a matching facing brick(and no flat roof  ). If the rest of the house had suffered frost damage with spalled bricks then I could...

    Spring clips for trade cases

I was looking for 'R' clips and knew that rally cars used them but found the 'nappy pins' by accident. If you get the samples please let us know if they're any good. As I've said, I've had one accident.
