    Scaled/Sludged up boiler heat exchanger..........?

i suppose it could slow the flow down in any part of the heat ex and hence cause the overheat stat to trip...?? depending how bad the scale/sludge build up was? The newer boilers have smaller diamteter heat exchangers than the good old cast iron type's used to don't they. one other thing...

    Scaled/Sludged up boiler heat exchanger..........?

    Scaled/Sludged up boiler heat exchanger..........?

I have been reading posts and understand that a scaled or sludged up heat exchanger can cause poor heat output from the radiators in general due to the water in the boiler not getting hot enough, due to the scale/sludge. How is this so? Surely if anything it would make the water going...

Honeywell 3 port motor replacement problem

yes i agree with you, BUT if HW is OFF at the programmer, there WILL be power to the grey wire anyway. If the programmer is faulty, and no power to the grey then you will be getting hw and heating!!!

Honeywell 3 port motor replacement problem

yes correct HTG only on, HW off at the prog will be supplying power to the GREY WIRE. If HTG ONLY IS ON, grey will be live as the programmer isn't (v v unlikely) to be sending power to h/w on AND off terminal connections is it.

Honeywell 3 port motor replacement problem

how am i showing myself up - check any htg/fault finding chart.... the grey wire thing is not mentioned in any of them. if there's power to white but not to ornage... the motor is not moving over... then there will be no power to grey with htg only on (as the micro switch won't operate...

Honeywell 3 port motor replacement problem

WTF are you all going on about!!! If you put HEATING only on and there's power to the white wire but NONE to orange, it is a faulty motor / actuator OR the valve spindle could be seized up. If you say you have removed the head and the spindle turns alright, then it is a motor or actuator...

    Boiler stat failure? how?

sorry, one more boiler stat question whilst i'm thinking of it :) there are 2 wires to the stat phial, the sl in and the return to the main solenoid correct? when you turn the dial/knob to increase/decrease the boiler stat setting/range, how does this open/close the contacts closer/further...

How to measure Hot Water Head

it's the heigh from the cold water tank (go from the bottom) to the shower rose. you want with most showers at least 1 metre, or a pump will be needed. some showers use only 600mm head but flow may be poor/poorish.
