    any good websites please?

I think darren was saying that he wanted to do all the pipework (and radiators maybe?)for the water and mount the boiler on the wall. And then presumably get a corgi registered person to do all the gas piping and connecting up to the combi. Is that right Darren. Would a CORGI person refuse to do...

    Check valves/non-return valves

you don't need check valves where the water level won't reach the hole supplying the water. e.g. cisterns, sinks and baths

Hi billy bob, I have no experience on boilers. I have nearly finished my two year nvq level 2 pluming course. Next year I will do nvq 3 (technical certificate) and will learn about gas, theory and practice, but unless i have experience working with a corgi registered plumber i can't get my...

    Bloomin' compression joints

I like Boss Blue on the thread and ptfe around the olive on old fittings. But new fittings shouldnt need anything. If you are having problems I would use speedfit fittings on copper pipe. Use an adjustable spanner and whack it against the compression nut and olive to get the olive off if it is...

Corgi changed their rules last year so now you need to work with a corgi registered plumber for a certain length of time (they give you examples of what experience they will accept on their website) to get practical experience of boilers. My aim is to be a corgi registered plumber but I am a...

oilman wrote: "Only someone living alone, or a nutter, wants a combi." I live in a two bedroom flat with my wife oilman (I don't mean that oilman is my wife). Do you recommend me to buy an ordinary boiler rather than a combi? My friend has had a Vokera combi for 6 years with no repairs...

    Loft tanks

I don't know anything about boilers but it seems a bit weird that the bolier is kettling because 1) it is new and so efficient 2) the plumber put in a non return valve. Is putting in a non-return valve not standard practice then?

Thats interesting shewolf because in your first post you said that the noises were coming from the radiators? So is the noise coming from the boiler as well?

    Pipe size vs pressure loss

my table goes down to 12mm. the flow rate for 15mm is double that of 12mm. i wonder if the flow rate for 10mm is a little over half that of 12mm. so possibly if you half the flow rate for 15mm and then half again you might get a rough idea for 10mm

    tap pressure

i was wrong, you can get a pressure gauge for only 12 pounds from Screwfix

    New gas supply

Hi henry, It seems obvious to me why a gas supplier would fit a gas supply and meter for free - because then they can get a customer who will pay for their gas for many years to come
