    cold feed problem

Couldn't the problem of radiators which are hot at the bottom and cold at the top and noise in the system be solved by venting(bleeding) the radiators? Is the whooshing sound made by the boiler that leads you to think that there is a blockage in the cold feed pipe oilman?

    plumbiing in sink and taps

Hi jelly, Do you mean you can't find a flexi-tap connector which is already connected to an isolating valve? Try a plumber's merchants/ supply shop or buy one online.

    plumbiing in sink and taps

according to the readers digest diy book outside taps require a double check valve (as close to the new tap as possible), and washing machines require single check valves on hot and cold. Put isolating valves on the hot and cold washing machine pipes but there is no mention that you need one on...

    plumbiing in sink and taps

You don't need check valves. You only need a rectrictor if the water pressure is too high, I believe. You just need an isolating valve on all pipes.

Connection of shower drainage to WC

Just out of interest, is it an old house? Is the WC a recent installation? I'm surprised that the WC soil pipe goes across the house under the floor. It must be a very long pipe. I wonder how you would clear it if it got blocked. Presumably the WC isn't against the outer wall? It must be a...

    Commissioning part-installed Gas Combi

sorry I misread what you wrote. I guess if he hasn't touched any of the gas side of things then there won't be a problem for a corgi registered person to come in and connect it up to the gas and commission it.

    Commissioning part-installed Gas Combi

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that corgi registered engineers aren't allowed to commission work they haven't installed themselves. Pete

basic question about boliers and water supply

Do you have to turn off a boiler when you turn off the mains water stopcock to do basic things like changing the washer on an upstairs bath tap and running off the water in the basin below to empty the water from the pipe? If you leave the bolier on isn't there a danger that the boiler will...

    Monoblock Taps

Taydo or anyone else, I don't understand how changing the washer helps the tap to open up or close off the flow of water. I thought washers in taps were just to prevent water leaking out of the joints in the taps. Surely if the tap is moving sufficiently up or down then it is doing the job...

    Mains stopcock

It seems a good idea. Incidentally two of my last three jobs resulted in the mains stopcock having to be changed. it seems as though old stopcocks are fine as long as they aren't touched then when they are they may start to leak or not close altogether. For someone as inexperienced as me...

    Fittings taps - putty/mastic required?

is sanitary silicone the same as silicone sealant? What sort of sealant do you use to fit a kitchen sink to the waste pipe. Under my sink there's lots of dark stuff around the joint. Do you know what that could be?
