    Dip/strip/replace old door?

Thanks John. It hasn’t rotted as such, just come away a bit! Tends to warp a bit in winter. Are there any door companies you would recommend? Ideally we’d like a decent quality wooden one in a similar Victorian style. With a new frame and glass pane above. Thanks again.

    Dip/strip/replace old door?

Thank you both for your help. Yes, one of the joints has come away (where the filler is bottom left). Was wondering if putting a screw through the side would secure it. As it’s the original door I’m torn between restoration or replacing it with a new door. Thanks again.

    Dip/strip/replace old door?

Hello Our front door is badly in need of TLC. Multiple layers of old lead paint which have broken off. Badly filled gap in wood. Is it likely to survive being dipped to remove paint? Ie is there a danger it will come apart/glass will fall out? Otherwise I think it need to be stripped with hot...

Using water-based paint over oil-based on woodwork

Hello I have a variety of interior woodwork surfaces in my Victorian terrace. Old chipped lead paint, yellowed gloss, some that attracts mould, knots showing through, and some Dulux trade satinwood on newer woodwork (which still looks good). I want a white, water based, low odour, low sheen...

How do I remove drainage hose on Bosch Washer WAQ28461GB/01

Thanks for the video. On upturning the machine, disconnecting the hoses and shining a light from inside the drum, we can see that the fabric piece is trapped between the drum and the casing, very close to the outlet but not reachable. If anyone has any other ideas I would be grateful, otherwise...

How do I remove drainage hose on Bosch Washer WAQ28461GB/01

Hello lovely people. My washer is not draining due to a blockage. I believe it is a small piece of fabric as it went in the wash and didn’t come out :(. I have opened front hatch and drained machine and cleaned filter and coin catcher at the front of the machine (all clear). Having looked...

No hot water - please help!

Thanks IronNaz When I put the heating on, the water did eventually get hot (took longer than normal, going warm then luke-warm several times along the way) so the good news is I've had a bath. Please can anyone suggest anything I can try myself to fix this, or do I just have to call out an...

No hot water - please help!

We have a Bosch/Worcester combi boiler 24i. We currently have no hot water. When we turn on the hot tap, the burner comes on as normal but after 10-20 seconds it goes off. Then goes on and off, on and off. Therefore it is not staying on long enough to heat the water. Please can anyone help...

Doors/floor length windows for Dormer - best type?

Hi all We are having our loft converted and wondered which windows/doors to go for in dormer. We had planned double doors and juliet balcony but one builder said these would leak water and recommended against. There is also a safety issue with children. I have heard that you can buy full...

rain leaking through roof around join of neighbour's dormer

Update - I called the Building Regs at the Local Authority and they said that encroachment over boundaries is not part of their remit, and anyway the job of building regs inspection has been given to a private company (LA has not yet been notified of sign off). They couldn't even tell me for...

rain leaking through roof around join of neighbour's dormer

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. The dormer has been in place for over 18 mths so I assume it would have been "signed off". Is it the Building Control Officer in the council that I should approach regarding the encroachment? Was it their responsibility to check this at the time...

rain leaking through roof around join of neighbour's dormer

Hi, me again. The quotes we have had are for lead flashing and renewing felt on 3 ft section from roof to gutter and then putting the tiles back on (may need a few new ones). Thanks!

rain leaking through roof around join of neighbour's dormer

Thanks folks for your comments. The centre of the ridge is indeed the boundary so they have come over our side with their dormer :( As we didn't have a leak before this, the problem could be either: A) The timing is just a coincidence and our roof would have leaked anyway. B) There has...

rain leaking through roof around join of neighbour's dormer

We have rain coming through our roof which started when next door converted their loft and built a dormer window. As you can see in photo, neighbour's dormer comes over the boundary so the join of dormer and roof is on our side. We mentioned it to our neighbour who thinks its just down to...
