    Mystery Immersion heater switches

We had a cupboard the other side of the wall with the switches which contained an emersion tank/hot water tank. When we moved in in January we had a new combi boiler fitter in the kitchen. At that time the heating engineer removed the emersion tank in the cupboard plus a water tank in a bedroom...

    Mystery Immersion heater switches

Hi John, There are no storage heaters or anything. We've just had a new combi boiler put in. Here's the fusebox and meter in the kitchen...

    Mystery Immersion heater switches

[/url] Haha, well spotted! That was my first post when we started the work. I didn't know the red switch was coming on and off at that point and thought I was seeing things the first time I saw it! I've used the old photo, but I've had the radiator and pipework replaced since then. I'm ready...

    Mystery Immersion heater switches

Thanks for your reply, it's really helpful. I was going to get an electrician in to move the switches lower down the wall and then have a faceplate fitted. Then I noticed the red switch coming on intermittently... It really helps to know what's going on before I call the electrician round.

    Mystery Immersion heater switches

Hi, I've got two, yes two, immersion switches on my living room wall. Behind the wall that they are on was an immersion heater tank in a cupboard. The tank and all wiring the other side of the wall has been removed in the past. The mystery is that the white switch light is on all the...

What would you do with these switches?

Thanks for the replies. The floor is cheapo laminate laid over concrete, although the rest of the property has floorboards :? so I'm going to have to leave the rad where it is, updating it of course. The wall is....block work and structural. I like the idea of turning the switches inside...

What would you do with these switches?

I don't know why there's two switches, but there are! We only moved in 8 weeks ago and there's plenty of strange things here. I don't really need another socket in that corner, there's a single socket about 18inches on the left on the grey wall. I think the low down blanking plate may be the...

What would you do with these switches?

There are two redundant emersion heater switches on the wall in my living room. Behind the white wall was a cupboard containing the emersion heater which has long since been removed, but these switches were left. The wires come up to them from below. Would you drop them down to the skirting...

Shower waste pipe into caste iron soil pipe?

I hope these help. All of these old fittings and boxing will be replaced and the shower will be fitted to the left of the sink. Thanks for the link, Teatime, I'll have a read of that now. I think Squeaky's suggestion may well be the way to go. There's no problem creating a...

Shower waste pipe into caste iron soil pipe?

Thanks for the reply. The cloakroom is on the first floor above the kitchen. There is a service channel running between the two through which runs the soil pipe and various hot and cold water pipes. The toilet branch of the soil pipe has the bottom collar about 3 inches below the level of the...

Shower waste pipe into caste iron soil pipe?

Hi, I'm just after some advice on installing a shower into my cloakroom. The cloakroom has a toilet and a sink in it and I wouldn't be doing the plumbing myself. I'm just having trouble understanding how the waste water from the shower is drained. Given that the shower drain is virtually at...

Tee-ing off from existing parallel CH pipes

Thanks for replying. Do I go down vertically, put a 90 degree bend on, then across or do I go down at 45 degrees and bend the branch pipe? Sorry if this is really obvious, but I can't find any images or descriptions anywhere.

Tee-ing off from existing parallel CH pipes

Hi, I want to add a radiator to my existing CH pipe work. My pipes are parallel in notches in the top of the joists under my floorboards. Lets say my pipes run north to south and I want to tee off to a new radiator on the left/west. I can't visualise how to tee off the pipe on the right...

Does anyone know what this is?

Thank you all for your interesting responses. The property was built in 1976, which ties in with Robin's suggestion. I don't know if any heaters were removed in the past though. I'm not going to touch it. I have to get an electrician round at some point to move a couple of sockets so I'll...
