Ariston Microgenus 23 cutting out (and sparks constantly)

To be fair, the installation is one of the neatest I've ever seen and the Worcester guy described it as "textbook" when he saw it. But by his own admission, he knew absolutely nothing about boiler repair.

    ESWA Celing Heating / Thermostats

No, the panels are usually wired in parallel, so failure of one shouldn't affect the rest. It does sound like there's a common cause, e.g. a blown fuse or tripped MCB. You need to trace the wiring and do some methodical fault finding. A handy tester can be made up of a light bulb in a holder...

Cannot remove toilet handle / lever

You're right, you need to remove the plastic "lever" which connects the handle's shaft to the metal link. They're usually a friction fit onto the square, metal shaft of the handle, and then locked in place with a self-tapping screw. There's not a screw hidden underneath, is there? Is the...

    Gloworm Ultimate 50ff noise

Are any of the electrolytic capacitors on the board bulging? Can you read the coil voltage of the relay that's buzzing?

    Worcestor bosch losing pressure

Hello, Not entirely sure what you mean... Do you mean that the pressure continues to gradually rise after you've re-pressurised the system? How exactly are you "topping up" your particular boiler?

Ariston Microgenus 23 cutting out (and sparks constantly)

Good point. When my boiler was fitted in 1993, the (Corgi reg'd) installer couldn't get it to fire up. A man from Worcester had to be summoned... and found he'd connected L & N backwards in the fused connector unit. All was well when that was corrected. A modern boiler is one of the very...

    ESWA Celing Heating / Thermostats

They certainly work surprisingly effectively, and as you say, are utterly invisible. Silent and very controllable too. Much more popular in certain parts of the Continent and in the USA than here though.

    ESWA Celing Heating / Thermostats

And no spark usually means the mat's knackered, not the stat :(

    ESWA Celing Heating / Thermostats

My wife's old 1st floor flat had ESWA ceiling heating. Their UK office is in SE London as stated above. Seems to be a one-man band but I found the guy very helpful and willing to give out technical info to me as a DIY-er. This was about 18 months ago. The original mats were nailed to the...

    Help! CH on constantly.

If I were faced with your problems, I would indeed disconnect the room thermostat. Do you understand electrical wiring? Bear in mind that these work at mains voltage which is potentially lethal, so you must be able to isolate the mains supply before trying anything. Have you got the...

Altec thermo not operating the boiler since battery change

Hello, Do you have the instructions? By the way, it's ALTECH if you're searching online. I think they're made by Salus, so this site may be useful: http://www.salus-tech.com/help/index.php?fid=10 (you might need to search other sections, not just this bit). It sounds like you need...

How do I cap 15mm tap connectors? Why such a low flow rate?

The "bore" of most flexible tap connectors is very small, so they will restrict the flow rate a lot on low pressure supplies. As you've found, copper all the way to the tap usually gives much better results - though requires more skill and time to do. Choice of tap is also important, as...

Advice needed on insulating our cold water tank

I've seen lids made from thin ply, and insulation from Celotex insulation board. Don't insulate underneath, though.

Anyone know any good washing machine repair manuals?

The Haynes one by Dixon is a good starting point for the basics. Lots of good info on the UK Whitegoods forum too.

    timesaver strap on boss

Plastic downpipe? In which case you're laughing, just make sure you use a very low speed, e.g. a cordless drill on its lowest gear and with just enough pressure on the trigger to do the job. Presume your holesaw has a pilot drill centrally? Cast iron is a different matter, of course!
