    Shower pump query..........

The position of the HW tank is irrelevant as it is presurised by the cold water tank in the loft. The pressure at the input to the pump depends purely on the vertical distance from the cold water tank to the pump input. There are other consideration though when siting a pump, mainly keeping...

    Dry lining and new ceiling...

Ah ha! The infamous shadow line! No, seriously it's just a recess at the joint between a wall and ceiling that hides the joint from view to some extent but gives the impression of the wall "floating". I've only seen it done on really flash modern properties, I don't think it would look good...

    elbow joints and water pressure

Consider using full-bore ball valves instead of gate valves and in-line isolators. The isolators in particular are very rerstrictive. Full-bore ball valves offer absolutely no restriction whatsover. http://www.screwfix.com/prods/18343/Plumbing/Pegler-Brassware/Pegler-Ball-Valve-Blue-22mm

Using shower pump for shower & wash basin

I wouldn't do this personally as turning on a tap on the basin would alter the flow, and thus the temperature, at the shower. But the main question is, why do you want to pump a wash basin?

    Dry lining and new ceiling...

I would consider putting some insulation between the rafters before putting up the ceiling, otherwise it will probably be forever cold and you might have condensation problems on the new ceiling. Celotex or Kingspan wedged in between the rafters would be ideal. Yes, do the ceiling first and...

    Shower pump query..........

All pumps have a minimum input head. Most need a positive head so need to be below the cold water storage tank, some can work with a negative head so can go above the CWS tank. The latter are designed for things like loft extensions and are more expensive. Some will only require a very...

    Very Loud CH Problem

Thanks for your reply slugbabydotcom. I had pretty much come to the conclusion that I have tons of sludge and one or more blockages. Do you think it's worth doing a conventional flush first, as a powerflusher seems to be hard to get hold of? I've got good mains pressure so I was also thinking...

    essex flange fitting

I've done three essex flanges (should have been two but I put my first on the wrong side of the tank - doh!) and they are quite easy if you follow the instructions. The worst thing that can happen is dropping it inside the tank so do it when the shops are open so you can get another one. You...

    Very Loud CH Problem

I've a problem with the CH in my house that I moved into five months ago - so not much history on the system. It is open vented, fully pumped Y-Plan, with an Ideal Standard NF50 boiler, 11 rads, HW storage tank. When I moved in the rads were only heating up at erratic times and the HW was...
