    Heat extraction from compost

That's a good idea, my granddad used to heat his green house with a straw bale. He would dig a hole big enough for a bale and pour liquid manure on it and cover it over and grow veg on top. Heap wise, why not have a big pipe in the middle of the heap, hot water from top and cold to base...

    Godamned Hammerite!

I once worked for a guy called Bodger. He bought himself a huge Volvo estate, silver and the odd rust hole. He instructed me to fill the holes and paint it with "This silver stuff...".. and handed me a big brush and a tin of silver Hammerite. It was a very hot summer day, Hammerite strings and...

    Crakle Glaze

Im making a shelf/box thing for my six year old to place things he's found in, pine cones etc. I want to give it an "oldie Worlde" finish I can knock it about a bit (in fact ive already taken an angle grinder to it!) but i think it would be nice if i gave it a cracked paint finish too. Using GRP to make a seat.

Here's a suggestion, race car seat are made by sitting on a bag of mixed quick setting foam, so moulding to your bum perfectly. Maybe layup over that. Or how about "memory foam" like they make fancy mattresses out of?... or GRP wise... carve a seat out of Polystyrene to your own tastes, coat...

Just to say...i tried a cheepo one a Clarks (i was lent it) and it seemed defective, in the blade tension department, when i tensioned the blade, i could still push down on it taking all the "ping" out of it as the arm seemed to bend! I was lucky enough to find a "shop soiled" (the bed was a...

Blocking up wall vents in Edwardian house

Probably nothing untoward will happen at all. Especially if you have draughty sash windows and a fireplace in the room. Even in the most modern house i don't think anyone claims that anyone has used up all the oxygen and pegged out from suffocation. If you have a gas fire or appliance that burns...

    scroll/fret saw

I know nothing about them. But i do use wood in my "work" and it would be useful to be able to cut intricate shapes etc. Not in thick wood, under and inch thick. On investigation i see they range from £39 to hundreds, Ok so maybe power of the motor is a factor but what else is?..what should i be...
