    Seems you might have to drill. The pins are bending so it seems theres soemthing very hard under the plaster (stone?). One can get masonary nails which probably wont bend, might be worth a try.

    yes u can bang in a wooden peg and screw into that... find abit of wood, shave it down til its a tight fit and smak it in with a hammer...

    Well how about, useing a bike axel for the center. Or if that looks too small, a car stub axel from a scrap yard. See if you can find a wood place that will cut you a big circle or do that with a jig saw, use MDF.

    yes dont vent into the loft!..... for a start after you cooked fish the whoel place would stink of fish!.. and the moist air woudl rot the beams... core drill, do it properly.

    We have lots of Tand G round our new house, its not very stable at all, in winter with heating on it craks and groans (like a wooden boat)... id use water resistant MDF if you want the look, but paint it back and front before you put it up to keep out water.

    Woodstock in Falmouth do lumps of exotic hardwood, and last time i looked had a shed of scrap bits of odd sizes (though they have recently moved ..so who knows now)... and when picking up wood from the beech beware the Tax man!... last time i went to "find" some the VAT man was waiting to charge...

    A friend did this with part of a churchyard (part of the top of a retaining wall that the church wouldn't maintain) ... it was 11 years for full possession. Must be a maintained fence. Id ask the land registry..if possible without actually letting them know who you are and where the land is...

    An ornamental hawthorn Will have small leaves, rather looking like a sycamore but much smaller and flowers in "florets".... if its a cherry it will generally have shiny bark either in patches or rings. If its a Malus/ Crab apple it'll have apples on it very soon! If its a Judus tree the flowers...

    funny ive just been doing a similar thing. Tried a wire heated in a blow lamp and its hard not to wobble it. The tin idea seems best to me. Though the fumes are horrible!

    Salsa.. get BG to check it out for a "service contract" before buying.. they will probably refuse to cover it.. use that fact as ruthless leverage to knock a few thousand off the price of the house...
