    Smoke from Washine Machine

Got it fixed for the maximum £90 call out charge...new drum fitted along with some other stuff, about £200 worth of parts (he said!). I think it is the luck of the draw, you could pay £90 for a £5 part fitted or in my case get a pretty good deal.

    Carpet to tile strip??

Thanks, but i finished the job before seeing your reply. I used a piece curved wood (used for door frames i think) for the doorway and left the existing strip in, I just routed the centre of the wood underneath so it fitted flush. Looks very good now ive varnished it. Cheers all the same tex

    LEAKING OVERFLOW OF BATH

You have no option but to take off the bath panel and see whats behind there. I have never heard of a w/m being plumbed into bath pipes before! The overflow will only be connected by a hose leading below the plug hole, so water would be coming out of there long before the overflow.

    Carpet to tile strip??

I am tiling the bathroom floor. Currently there is a carpet to carpet strip on the doorway, I assume with the height difference this will need to be replaced. Is there a strip out there thats meant for this job? Thanks

    Smoke from Washine Machine

Our Hotpoint WMT02 was doing it's spin cycle today and after a god awful noise, smoke dispersed form the machine. I suspect the drum motor has burnt out. Is this a write off or can it be repaired for a reasonable price, the m/c is 2 years old Thanks

    Rcd trips

Thanks breezer, Ill tell him to get a new element. RE the isolating switches. I have the same type of mcb as him and if a light bulb blows in the kitchen it is the switch covers the circuit of the downstairs lights that 'trips' and not the rcd, I thought it would be the same for the cooker.

    Rcd trips

My neighbours rcd trips at the consumer unit regulary when the oven is turned on. There is a seperate isolating switch on the board for the cooker but that does not trip, just the main rcd. He was asking me what I thought of it but I do not know. Any pointers much appreciated.

    Drilled into electrical cable

You could always use a small junction box to repair the damaged wire, much better than terminal blocks which I would not recommend.

Is one of these drills suitable

Id be interested in hearing your horror stories of cheap power tools Ban-All-Sheds. I have never spent more than £40 on a power tool and all have lasted me 2 years now with no probs as yet. I praise cheap power tools as for the amount of time I actually use them I don't see the point of...

    Block paving or inprinted concrete

the advantage of mono-block is if you should have an oil spill you can simply remove the bricks in question and replace, with concrete you will have to look at it forever. This was posted 2 days ago if you look back for the answer on the pro's & cons
