    Contacting EDF

I'm fairly sure. I've phoned up various electricity suppliers all of whom have told me that it's off. Also everything is turned on at the fuseboard but no sign of life at sockets or lighting circuits. It gets curiouser and curiouser.

    Peter "Columbo" Falk

Fantastic actor. Despite the dated backdrops, Columbo doesn't come close to modern detective series. One more thing - was Mrs. Columbo ever seen on screen?

    Contacting EDF

This is what I can't work out. Surely if the electricity co were owed enough money to warrant digging up the road to disconnect the power they would have that on record and want me to pay it when I phoned them up asking to be reconnected. Wontdothatagain : There has been no forced entry...

    The AA recovery service

I've been towed off the hard shoulder of the M40 at least twice by the AA and couldn't fault the service. I think it's a case of you get what you pay for - they're not the cheapest recovery service, but in my experience, they're the best. And tbh, when you're sitting at the side of the road...

    Contacting EDF

Short term plan is to rent it. Having a property sitting empty seeming crazy to me, when it could be paying its own bills. Long term, who knows? But if the place is sorted he at least has the option of moving back in.

    Contacting EDF

I'll give the sob story a go - you never know. Although I've shot myself in the foot by telling everyone I've spoken to that the property is mine and I'm the bill payer because that was the only way that I could get them to talk to me. I feel a large scotch and a kip beckoning tonight. I'll...

    Contacting EDF

Not a bad suggestion John, but unfortunately he doesn't give the time of day to anyone who's "gonna F with my head - I'm fine as I am." And because he's an adult, is housed and can feed and look after himself, the NHS/LA can't do a lot. It's taken me two years to persuade him to give me a...

    Contacting EDF

Thanks for replying. I'm slightly pessimistic having already been bounced between EON, EDF, the Electricity Distrisbution Centre and the UK Power Network. All off whom pass the buck to somebody else and give me yet another 0845 number to ring - I'm getting tired of paying 6p a minute to listen...

    Contacting EDF

I didn't buy the flat. It is owned (80 year lease) by my father who has mental and now also physical health problems, so it falls to me, as his son, to sort out the financial mess he's got himself into. I've already paid off the outstanding council tax and ground rent, which wasn't cheap and...

    Contacting EDF

I fear I may have opened a can of worms here. I spoke to someone from the people responsible for the cabling who told me I could expect to pay between £1,500 and £2,500 to have the supply reconnected  This is on top of the £2k I'd allready set aside for a rewire. Super

    Home Brew!

I once shared a bottle of damson vodka with the chap who brewed it. It was excellent at the time, the sweetness of the damsons with the slight bitterness of the vodka. The next morning was a different matter though

    Contacting EDF

Sorry, I should have put a smiley after my post. I know that's what you meant, just wanted to reassure you that I wasn't going to start poking screwdrivers, wet fingers, etc into my mains supply

    Contacting EDF

I don't know why it was disconnected, but I assume it was because the bill wasn't paid. Ban all sheds: I'm not gonna start playing around with it - I know my limits and mains electricity well exceeds them. Will try to upload some pics of the meter's' Thanks to all who've replied - I...

    Contacting EDF

I've had more fun with them this afternoon, phoned Eon who told me they had no record of the property and had never supplied it. Phoned the Distribution Centre who told me that Eon WERE the suppliers  Ban all sheds - I'm not sure how the supply has been disconnected. From the pics...

    Contacting EDF

After a total of 90mins on hold, when I finally got through they told me that the supplier is actually EON  Here we go again

    Contacting EDF

Was just wondering if anyone on the forums has actually managed to do this? I spent 20mins on hold yesterday and a further half hour this morning before giving up. The property has had the leccy cut off and because it was supplied by EDF, I have to go through them to have it switched...

Handle not rising means door won't lock.

Thanks for the help guys. Will break out the scewdriver this afternoon and have a look.

Handle not rising means door won't lock.

. Both. The door is wooden but with the same type of locking mechanism that you get on modern PVC doors with two hook/claw type locks top and bottom which engage when the handle is lifted up and another normal lock under the catch.

Handle not rising means door won't lock.

Could use some advice here - the door handle goes up about three quarters of the amount it should before stopping. The two "claws" at the top and bottom of the door come out as they should but it seems to be the rectangular shaped lock just below the latch that is sticking. Sorry for the...
