Coal Gas Fire Very Noisy After Cleaning????

Thanks for the replies. If I had any idea that I would have needed an engineer to come and hoover a fire I would have got one, the reason I attempted it is we have black soot stains on a cream carpet. Now I know. I guess the shop that I bought the coals from should also have the sand, how much...

Coal Gas Fire Very Noisy After Cleaning????

Hello, I have just cleaned out our gas fueled coal fire for the first time since we moved in (4 years). There was a huge amount of soot and what looked like brown sand filling up the bottom tray where the gas pipe is looped around. I have replaced the old coal with new ones and have fired it...

    Cutting slate tiles for kitchen??

That's great Jason, many thanks!!! You say I'll need widejoint grout, fairly self explanatory what that is but what sort of gap do I need to leave between tiles (or is this because the tiles are quite deep??). Lastly (sorry about this!!) what sort of trim would you suggest, don't want to spoil...

    Cutting slate tiles for kitchen??

Hello, I am going to attempt to tile our kitchen (that I fitted) mainly due to getting married soon and saving hard!! We have 10x10x0.8 grey slate tiles. My first question is probably an obvious one but....do I tile under sockets or round them?? My second is what is the best way to cut these...

    Dimmer switch very hot??

Hi, In our lounge we have a dimmer switch to control the main lights - a seven arm 40w chandelier thingy! The dimmer switch has a tendancy to get rather hot, also, if you have the lights dimmed too low they flicker on and off. Any idea on how to cure this, I'm guessing I need to change the...

    Tiling a kitchen splashback

I've just fitted our kitchen (I'm a suit in a bank by trade so it certainly isn't professional!!) and had gaps at the back of the work top due to gas pipes that would have cost a fortune to move, I got round this by having my dad cut me upstands from an extra worktop we bought, this covered the...

Biasi Radiators "clunk" and wake me up!!!

To be honest I think it's more thermal expansion (a very loud ticking) but it seems to happen with one radiator in particular (one of the ones in the bedroom). I understand that as they warm up they expand, but to wake me up seems a bit strange, I was under the impression they weren't cheap...

Biasi Radiators "clunk" and wake me up!!!

Hi, Last year I put brand new Biasi rads in all our rooms. As we didn't use them during the summer I forgot that when they are heating up they "clunk" and it really p1sses me off as I can't have the heating come on before I get up as they wake me half an hour early!!!! They are the ones with...

    Hole in W/M Rubber??

As you look down on the machine with the door open, the hole is in the bottom of the crevacey bit on the rubber between door and drum, if you push the drum in gently it opens up this crevacey bit and exposes the hole (If you can understand that!!!). I'm guessing it's double lined as it's not...

    Hole in W/M Rubber??

Hi, After a lot of hard work our kitchen is nearly done. unbelievably getting the washing out of the machine the other night I noticed a small hole in the rubber between the drum and the door, about the size of a 5p. Obviously this will have to be replaced at some point but how soon, we have...
