Basin bottle trap 32mm or 40mm?

I still refer to them as 1 1/4" or 1 1/2", metrification had already took place when I started my apprenticeship in 1976, but only on paper, neither the lecturers or older tradesmen had any time for 'foreign' measurements. But then I still recall an 'old one penny' mixed bag of sweets..... kids...

Obviously our collective crystal-ball needs a polish up. A few photo's starts the process.

    15 mm water pipes - which make/model?

:rolleyes:As long as all the old copper pipe is metric (i.e post 1974), and cleaned back to bare metal, AND is perfectly circular AND had no sharp edges on the end (a pipe slice is easiest to use) to damage the 'o'ring seals, then if needed plastic push-fit fiitings can be used. Myself and other...

Dropped a hammer onto freshly tiled floor :(

All trades do it.... luvverly quadrant shower tray, all tiled and sealed up. Great, now I can fit the new shower valve onto the pipework I have carefully positioned. 'Ol butterfingers me, drops the valve denting that. And takes a chunk out of the upstand on the tray. No profit on that...

Lead (off a roll on my handcart)for me.... Seriously, copper's proper, and plastic's fantastic when in a tight fix, but it is fuggly.

    Nest with room thermostat

going a little off-topic, here but, If I could really really be bothered, I would count how many queries there are from punters who think they want/need control their heating from the convenience of a smart phone/ipad/whatever..... nobody but nobody ever requests internet capable controls...

Monometer with glass or plastic tubes?

Although my Gas Analyser (which includes pressure readings positive and negative if needed) needs servicing/reclaibration each year, 9 times out of 10, I get the Regin Premiere 'j' gauge out.... no calibration, no moving the zero up and down or averaging both sides etc. Just do not blow the...

Drilling tap hole in ceramic sink

When punters want those giant fireclay behemoths fitted, I either insist they order it predrilled ready take the tap (most suppliers off this option at a cost), or issue a disclaimer to the effect that I cannot guarantee an undamaged sink top if I have to drill/knock it through. Been caught out...

    Popular working from home jobs

Place an advert in Exchange&Mart (showing my age here.....) offering 'get rich quick scheme, foolproof' or similar..... for full details send me £25 (say) When the white fivers start mounting up, divulge the big secret to the punters. and that's all I can say, for 'wishing to stay out of jail...

Could anyone please identify what theese pipes do/are going

Perhaps you mean 'blokes what do some plumbing' have done.... at the risk of sounding like Dick Puller, time served Registered Plumbers are the way forward. As is compulsory registration of Plumbers. OK , so I can come down off my high-horse now?

Changing fire on baxi Bermuda 401

IIRC, the C5 fire fronts for the Back Boilers were for the 45/4 and 57/4 range onwards (circa 1995/6 onwards ranges), so it is likely the fire-front has already been 'upgraded' once. to repeat, the two appliances are only designed to work as a pair. While I agree that keeping an existing boiler...

    What on earth is this?

I was still fitting the Homerette back boiler unit in 1984.... it was called ''Council Housing' back then. With a rent collector calling every fortnight, with a satchel to hold the cash. He knew who was who, what was what and was effectively the ears and mouth of the council. Needless to say I...

Help - How can I hide my boiler?

When you do box it in, please make the boxing as tight as possible so that it take the service guy half an hour to remove pelmets and cornice sections just to get the frontcover off. After all that is what highly skilled artisan kitchen fitters do.

    Trump state visit

I suppose to would be too much to ask that he was just 'ignored' by the general public?, or if those who feel a need to demonstrate could turn their backs on him.... (I'm firmly in the 'why was he awarded a state visit in the first place' frame of mind by the way). Plenty of other odious...

    PART 2 TOILET FLOAT VALVE:

My local (Norwich) BuildBase (Grafton Group) stocks the extra-long-tailed part 1 & 2 Float valves. I always have one of each on board as stock. It may be that your local branch also keeps them, this may be easier than waiting for Ebay to deliver.

(New Central Heating System Installation) How much should it cost for my requirements

Thing is Steel, they have become the self-appointed arbiters of just about everything. Just don't get started about how WB came to be their No1 choice year in and year out. They seem to have a very effective press-release chief who can command front-pages and prime-time TV news coverage of...
