    Done This Puzzle Yet?

I am not quite sure either me or the poor soul on the other side of the counter taking my order for a 'pork bender' would be able to maintain a straight face. might it not be taken to have:whistle:, ahem, certain 'connotations'? Checking the location of my nearest branch in Lowestoft (or...

    Done This Puzzle Yet?

Wimpy Bars also had the 'squeezy' tomato shaped sauce containers, which if you gripped with both hands and well, squeezed hard enuff, it would hit the ceiling. And I wonder why me and my pals were not welcomed back the next time.... (this was the mid-seventies after all)

Advice needed on replacing syphon on concealed cistern with back to wall pan

Cannot say if this work for you or not as I have not tried one.... but see here, Plumbase stock them, and if you watch the video, it claims you do not need to disturb the flush pipe. https://www.plumbase.co.uk/wirquin-macdee-quickfit-100007814-3574181 video clip looks like the push button...

Advice needed on replacing syphon on concealed cistern with back to wall pan

A couple photos might help? Concealed cisterns behind any decorative surface are the very invention of the devil. ALWAYS installed by that mysterious 'trade' who call themselves Bathroom Fitters, and have no concept that future maintenance will be needed. Happy new year. Pass me the tylenol.

    Back duo-tec won't pressurise!

occasionally you need to fully open them, and I mean all the way to the stop location, to get anything flowing through. After trouble with the earliest ones, I resorted to putting in 'old skool' filling loops separately to avoid troublesome call-backs.

    Compression fittings.

non-pasted compression joints may hold up well initially, but come any movement (cutting in tee's etc) leads to an indoor water feature very quickly in my experience. When I see the white tape poking out of a compression joint, my heart sinks. Not just for the joints, but the rest of 'Dafty...

Letting out water under pressure, before flushing Fernox filter

TF1 filters are IMHO Carp.... Alongside the boxes on the shelf, they also stock replacement seals. That tells me plenty. I have replaced them at less than 2 years old for the same reasons the OP has mentioned. Time will tell if the Fernox replacement (all metal?) one are any better.

Boiler condensate direct into toilet waste!!!

there is such a thing as a HepVo trap, which (best fitted vertically in my experience) allows flow in one direction only and would prevent unintended siphonage and 'back flow'. It comes in packaging which includes an 'overflow/condensate pipe' diameter convertor, I use them when needing to...

What does the DIYnot community think of DiySOS and it's cast?

to coin a phrase "it's only Television". Ergo. there is an OFF button, and this is one which deserves it. Helping out those in need is, IMHO, something one does quietly, without feeling a need to make some big 'hurrah'

James Hunt : The last true racing driver.

Once saw a photo of him with Barry Sheene (another hero ?) looking out from the pits over a track, I believe they shared a sponsor, Marlboro'?, showed it to Mrs Dread, who remembered their names, bearing in mind she has no interest at in cars/motorbikes or motorsport, that's an achievement.

Valliant EcoTec Pro 28 - Pressure tops out

dear Scooby, in theory removal of the front cover of your vaillant (to test/recharge the vessel) is Gas Installer territory, as it forms the room-sealed casing. Just saying this as DIY Gas Advice is against DIYNOT.com rules, and the helpful advice from steve32 is contrary to this. That is all.

    Fitting new boiler costs

Dear OP At the risk of repetition, imagine going into your local restaurant, with a large shopping bag full of your favourite goodies, and asking the chef to rustle up your meal, and let them provide the table, crockery, cutlery, leccy/gas etc. Imagine what response you would get.... is that...

cross over bend between too points

or, go to a proper plumbers merchants, and buy 2 x 45° solder bends (end feed, or integral solder ring). then you can cut the section between them to the millimetre as required. Yes I am aware that this costs time to find and purchase, risks a leak if not soldered correctly and will cause...
