    Dropping a kerb

Well - got a visit from a council gaffer last night, and after a lot of haggling due to an underground BT box being (almost) in the path of my proposed drive, I've got the price down to 350 quid for the job..... Tightwad council don't let anybody else do it due to "insurance" issues (yeah right)...

    kids these days...

Saw this on BBC news and laughed so much I nearly wet myself A teenager is receiving specialist hospital treatment for burns following an incident at a Scottish Power sub-station in Midlothian. Rescuers found the 14-year-old hanging upside down from a piece of equipment six metres above the...

    Overflow outside dripping?

Have you checked the washer on the valve?? It may well be old perished rubber and be a bit broken and not shutting off the flow no matter how low you set the arm to be

    Dishwasher traps...

B&Q-shed, wicks-shed and even *shudder* homebase-shed - nowt in terms of washing machine / dishwasher specific traps in 32mm (all 40mm) - guess I can adapt a normal sink trap or something. Just I had some spare right angle compression joints easily available and couldn't be bothered trawling...

    Dishwasher traps...

Morning folks, Need to assemble a u-bend trap for a slimline dishwasher in 32mm pipe. Trouble is I can't find anywhere local that does traps in 32mm - only 40mm (the hole to the outside and the drain is only big enough to fit a 32 :( ) Can I get away with using right angle compression...

access after tiling a bath panel

try screwing on the panels using 4 (or 6 for the long edge) screws that will accept a cap on them (say a chrome one?? depending on the colour of the tiles?? like this http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/63/p1577163_m.jpg ) Or you could always try and assemble some kind of "drop and slot"...

    Dropping a kerb

Still waiting for the council to contact me about the whole drop thing but the price when you think about it is scandalous - the actual kerb stones must be 30-50 odd quid at most, plus say 15 quid for mortar / concrete - that means that if it comes to say 700 quid the cost of materials is about...

    Dropping a kerb

Just out of curiousity which council was it??? Mines the wonderfully inept Newcastle council - the same council that lost city of culture when it was in the bag, and also stuffed up the love parade many moons ago :x

    Dropping a kerb

Cheers for that - just rang them back and asked why they don't allow it even though the highways act says they can just give permission... They're getting a supervisor to ring me back

    Dropping a kerb

Bit of confusion experienced - want to drop the kerb outside my house to fit a drive (cars tend to belt up and down. busses do the same, not a wide road and on a hill etc etc etc. Rang the council for permission to get it dropped only to be told that "only they" can drop a kerb - this is...

    bit of advice required

Right them - cheer for the tips thus far folks - looks simple enough to get hold of / plumb in.... And as for the sparky side of things the (qualified) mate who helped me re-wire the whole house will be able to sign it off (it's great having mates who work for beer :D ) But..... :wink...

    bit of advice required

I'd love too, but my better half has spent lots of money on a lovely mixer & shower tap combined and doesn't want to have to get a separate shower as well :? . Plus I've just finished a re-wire and didn't put a cable in for a shower  Sadly can't as there's a separate tank for the CH...

    bit of advice required

Hi folks - after a bit of advice on hot water flow from a storage tank. Got a problem with the bathroom sink and bath (mixer tap on bath). The hot water flow is utter bobbins due to the storage tank being on the same floor as the bath / sink, and the cold water tank being not that much above the...
