Best way to attach tongue & groove to a wall

Hmmm - cheers for the advice folks - starting to lean towards fixing battens up and attaching the tongue & groove to that now.... And it'll have the added benefit of covering up the rubbish sirting in there leaving me free to fit new stuff over it and earn brownie points with my better half -...

Best way to attach tongue & groove to a wall

Morning folks, About to start adding tongue and groove cladding to the lower half of the bathroom walls as the next part of our never ending house refurbishment once I get the flamin' tiling done - but that's another story..... The walls are fairly flat and if possible I'd like to avoid...

    Drillings into asbestos?

Aye - and ever noticed that break pads don't last half as long as they used to now since they stopped using it in them?? Ahh - they don't do nostalgia like they used to..... As a side point - I've read that white asbestos is chemically the same as talc what you put on babies backsides...

    Drillings into asbestos?

Possibly at risk of a flaming here but - here goes.... The whole asbestos risk is overhyped for the benefit of the asbestos removal industry, as it is in their interests to casue widespread panic. Left alone there is no danger to your health. Posibly not worth the risk in drilling it - just...

    Generator advice

Biggest con I can think of would be the fuel - you're gonna have to change it / run the genny to almost dry and top back up at least twice between now and spring to be sure of it not degrading down. Saw an add in the daily torygraph last week for 3K gennys for about 100 quid - if nothing else...

    Power to outside shed

Simple really - they don't got two hoots about it at the fairs - look at the poor safety record of them in general - if they don't care about the ride safety why would they care about cables?? Plus half the time the authorities can't do much about it / can't be bothered as it's not worth the...

Cheap bosch drills at B&Q - much cop???

Morning folks, visiting my local B&Q last night *Shudder* for some bits & bobs, and saw that they're selling Bosch corded 550W drills for 30 quid as a clearance item (suspect it's a local deal though - but the Scotswood branch up in Newcastle had 'em if anyone wants to know / cares). Now being...

Grout & seal or seal & grount

Morning folks, Any chance you could settle a discussion between me and my better half: - Just doing the tiles in the bathroom from the bath and sink upwards, the tiles are going up on the wall a treat, and we're about ready to grout round the tiles and silicone seal betwen the tiles and the...

    Barn Conversion 1st Fix question

Ahh - yes - "Limited ability" - that's the fella.... Both me and my better half are both fully able bodied and quite capable of fully bodily function - although the spark that advised me / did the second fix / signed off would debate the isue of my limited ability (but he's a mate so he would do...

    Barn Conversion 1st Fix question

OK then - sockets - as I said I can only go off what happened to me 2 months ago, and it was definitely 300mm for sockets - and tha's been signed off as well - maybe you're reading the regs for business premises rather than domestic - 450mm is half a meter up the wall and sounds a bit crazy for...

    Barn Conversion 1st Fix question

Not gonna profess to be an expert or even give advice that's definitely correct, but this is what I was told about sockets / switches when I did all the 1st fix for my gaff (2 months ago). Sockets must be 300mm above finished floor level (kind of odd but it does make life a lot easier - I was...

Low Hot water Presure - Move tank good Idea ?

It should do - I'm planning to do the same thing myself in the next few weeks. Increased height = more gravity = higher pressure - pretty sure I've seen that a 37ft drop = 1 bar of presure, and .3 bar is enough for a shower... 2 meters = about 7 ft (ish), so you should increase your pressure...

    Bank holiday woes

Grrrrrr - wish I could have done that - trouble was I grazed the pipe not went clean into it (can't even do that properly :x ) so I'd have had no chance..... Typical... Oh well

    compression joints

Plenty of pipe jointing compounds out there.... Take yer pick :) I've used Boss Green pipe jointing compound myself and that's fine so far - give the threads a nice smearing and you're laughing. If I were you I'd buy the green one rather than the red - the green is suitable for potable water...

    Dropping a kerb

So how come the Mackems have a sensible approach to this, while those of us blessed with being on the right side of the river have to pay through the nose? Anyway - the order's in - just got to wait for the work to be done now :x

    Bank holiday woes

Cracking weekend this one - all was well till Monday (foundations for new drive laid ok, area leared up, all going perfect.....) Then decided to put up the final cupboard in the kitchen on the nice newly skimmed wall; got the cupboard level; my better half marked the drill holes; did a quick...

    Noisy neighbours

Easy - ASBO the cretins  Complain to landlord / housing association / council Failing that 2 15 inch subs up against the wall and a bit of slipknot once an evening between the hours of 10.30 and midnight

    Dropping a kerb

Now admittedly that's sketchy, but why oh why can't councils just have an inspection scheme - if it's a bodge job then they should consider sending in the contractors to fix and charge the owner for the making good, but they shouldn't penalise the majority just because the odd clampet can't tell...

    Dishwasher traps...

I did, But sadly the dishwasher was / is on the far side of a support column to the sink (due to the wacky but functional layout / shape of the room we've got), and while I've boshed the water pipes through the column I was more reluctant to put a hole through the column the other way for waste...
