    beech worktops

For a kitchen it's better to oil them. Varnish will eventually wear off in patches - especially where you wipe it the most, like round the hob and sink. Disadvantage of oil is that you need to keep re-applying it - often to start with, less often when you've built up an oily surface. Water...

    Cold Showers!

Agile was dead right ... it was a blocked heat exchanger. The first BG engineer didn't have a clue - but the second one was brilliant. He booked a call back time and came armed with a new heat exchanger, a new sensor and a new pump - because he wasn't sure what was wrong. Even after he'd...

    Cold Showers!

Hi everyone. I have a four year old Baxi Combi 80e boiler which I thought was wonderful - until a few months ago, when it started turning off the heat completely, once the water got hot, and providing a cold flow until it has heated it up again. I guess it's supposed to regulate the...

    Oak worktops for kitchen

Yep - follow instructions as given - but also ... one of the worktop suppliers suggests that the worktop is sufficiently oiled when drops of water on the surface stay in drops. If the water spreads out then the tops need oiling again.

    Shutters for kitchen unit fronts?

What you're looking for is called a tambour door and kitchen accessory suppliers (like Hafele and PWS) will have some standard sized ones. It might be worth doing a search but ... as breezer says ... it would be easier to use a timber window blind.

    Boiler covering

It all depends on the boiler. Have you got the instruction book? If not try the web site of the manufacturer - they often have installation instructions for current models.

Good Place to buy a kitchen

I'm not strictly a guy! :D And I don't fit any of these kitchens ... but I did a survey recently of the kitchens available from the big multiples. IKEA was definitely the least expensive (apart, possibly, from Focus ... but their range of units is appalling and the carcasses are only 15mm...

    Howdens kitchens

Howdens and MFI kitchens used to be identical but Howdens sold off MFI in October last year. I think they are continuing to supply some MFI kitchens until next year - but expect to see an increasing difference between their ranges. As for the planning - it all depends on the individual...

damn those DIY shows... gives me too many ideas..

You may already have sorted out the answers to your questions but just in case .... I'm not sure what sort of board you're looking for but try IDS ... they're a distributor but will be able to give you local suppliers if they have what you're looking for. As for the hob; no you shouldn't...

Who supplies Wickes with their Kitchens

I know the OP was from October last year but, in case anyone else has the same problem ... I think it's Gower that supplies Wickes kitchens. They may supply special ranges to such a big customer though, different to their other outlets. B&Q will supply just doors now; they've started selling...
