Moved in - New Alarm Required.

Nope, but since it's open, is it worth me taking some pictures of it and posting them on this forum so that you can help me understand the connections?

Moved in - New Alarm Required.

Thanks for waiting. I received the alarm today. Unfortunately when I opened the parcel, the kit packaging within it was damaged and the seal was already broke. Also one or two items also had scratches too. I've written an email to Alert Electrical and just hope they resolve it ASAP.

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

Drawings would be really appreciated Mike. But my floor beams are not 4x2, but actually 3x2. The 4x2 beams your referring to are in a very small corner of the loft and are simply screwed down on top of the 3x2 floor joists. When I have some time, I will life a full line of the chipboards...

    Wood worm advice required

LOL! I was thinking the same too and yes, maybe some of the holes have possibly been created by pins. However, these pin holes are also showing on some of the floor joists too, so I have two choices. Either I can treat the whole place of leave it and hope for the best. Now is there away I can...

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

Really sorry guys, as I was half asleep. Yes it's in feet and not meters. The new joists are simply sat on top of the old ones. They have been screwed to the old ones and if you look at the first photo the are not attached to any wall or anything at each end. The first measuring photo is...

Right, but do you feel that I should still go for the more expensive cuprinol?

    Wood worm advice required

I'm sure I read somewhere that Cuprinol definately contains Permethrin too. To be perfectly honest, if I had to cover a large area of the loft, then I'd rather spray it than brush it. Of course, I'd take all the required precautions, such as ventilations, masks. I'll also cover small sections...

    Wood worm advice required

Excellent, thanks John. I forgot to mention that there is absolutely no heating in the loft and with the roof not being insulated, the loft can get very cold indeed. Not sure if the woodworm would be able to survive such cold. Now do I need to cover the whole loft or just the affected areas...

    Wood worm advice required

Thanks very much JohnD for your advice. I've used a screwdriver with a flat-blade and twisted it a few times. Although on the face of it the wood has come off, it seems to be okay underneath. But I'll leave you to judge that.....

    Wood worm advice required

Hi everyone, After recently purchasing our property, I've found some patches woodworm holes in the main roof joists. They are mainly at the upper half of two joists and from what I can tell they don't seem to be active. I've attached the photos below and would appreciate any advice given. Thanks

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

Hi everyone, Sorry for the delay. As promised, here are the photos of the loft. A few things to note:- The loft is approx 25 metres in length. You will notice that there are new joists (4x2) going across on top of the old floor joists. These are only in one section of the loft and the...

Moved in - New Alarm Required.

I think your advise is absolutely right. For now what I'll do is instead of the garage door, I'll put it on the e/e door i.e. the front door. The pirs are still the same and will be in hallway, kitchen, living & lounge rooms. I'll add a door contact at a later stage for the garage...how does...

Moved in - New Alarm Required.

There isn't going to be any door contact for the front door because I will be using a PIR instead. The door contact will be going on the garage door outside instead.

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

Thanks for your replies. My loft also has a load bearing internal wall in the middle, so I can only assume that it would require shorter joists (approx 10-12ft??). Doggit, don't be sorry, you haven't given a wrong impression. I will try and take some photos and post on here. Now questions...

Moved in - New Alarm Required.

Thanks very much. I'm sorry to say, but most of what you've said has gone over the top of my head. Can you please give me a link to texecom's youtube channel? Does it show you how to do the wiring? The pir detectors will cover all four rooms & the door contact is for the garage (See diagram...

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

I don't see any problems in getting the joists up there, but I don't see why building regs would get involved as it's not going to be used as a habitable room as such.

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

Hi, My loft is currently being used to store small items at the moment. It has a proper staircase and I can walk upstairs without any problems. The thing is though, I'm running out of storage space, so my next plan is to put large/heavy items in the loft. The only issue with it is that it...
