hanging kitchen cupboard with window anchors?

Thanks Chaps. But I didn't say it was a 25mm screw, just that I now had a hole about half and inch deep where the plaster has been pulled out. The original screw was about 60mm - it wasn't a small one. Could you post a link to a suitable size screw and plug to use, or is the link I posted OK?

hanging kitchen cupboard with window anchors?

I was probably exagerating about a 'big hole. Its probably and inch square, and half and inch deep. But with the half-inch deep bit I'd struggle to get a standard one in. From memory it was a rawl plug for fixing medium/heavy items, and may have been B and Q's own brand. Its possible it...

hanging kitchen cupboard with window anchors?

Our 1M wide kitchen cabinet/cupboard came down last night. It was held at each upper corner and on one side it pulled the screw fixing out of the wall. It is a solid brick outside wall, not s atud wall. Had been up for two years so dont know what happened. Anyway, I now have a fair bit of...

    kitchen worktop joint blown

There's no way I could have avoided it being where it is unfortunately. I suppose I could have used something else to coat the edges, but I did use a whole tube of colorfill and assumed that was all I needed. Is there anything I can do, or just pray? I've scraped out the colorfill from the...

    kitchen worktop joint blown

That'd be me then  Must admit I did a lot of digging, including on here, and never saw anything re the varnish. Oh well - you live and learn. Thought I'd done quite a good job as well. Will just have to hope it doesn't get any worse

    kitchen worktop joint blown

Yes. Its no coincidence we've had a baby recently and the missus drops the lid full of condensation on or near the joint. I've tried to 'educate' her but its a losing battle, though she does have a point when she says that a kitchen worktop shoule really be able to cope with a bit of water

    kitchen worktop joint blown

P.S. is it worth trying to somehow compress the bit that has expanded back into place, or is that just asking for trouble.

    kitchen worktop joint blown

One of my kitchen worktop joints has obviously got water in it somehow, and one edge of a 90 degree joint has slightly lifted/expanded. I should say that this is a very small area - a coupleof centimetres long and only raised by approx 2mm. But it is noticeable. I have cleared out the old...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Exellent. Thanks once again. I'll leave you alone for a bit now until I've had the glazing firm back out :D

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Thanks again. But how do I find someone who does pointing for a living? I'm sure 99% of builders would tell me they can do it no problem. And what sort of mortar do they need to use? If they are doing this I have some other areas at the bottom of the house that are crumbling around the...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Thanks again guys. Really appreciate your help. I've arranged for them to come out and have a look. They are not a national, but are very well known and 'reputable' locally. That said we had a nightmare with them fitting it. Took about 4 months to get the door fitted correctly. I did ask...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

OK, thats good to know anyway. I'm always wary of putting anything structural on pen and paper with insurance companies. I plastered the internal cracks about a year or so ago, but they've come back. Whether that means its going to be continuous or whether it just hadn't found its final resting...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Oh......... That wasn't quite the response I was hoping for, but thanks a lot all the same. I'll see what they say. If they held their hands up, Realistically what would I be expecting them to do? If I assume that the windows have the supports in them and dont need replacing, would they...

    embarrasing question

Thanks guys. Maybe it wasn't as stupid a question as I first thought. I'll probbaly go for the plugs option and then I'll know they are gonna stay there even if my plaster is a bit dicey.

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Yes, I better rephrase that. "Nobody seemed massively horrified about the cracks .................." I'm not sure. They've clearly been repointed as you say, but it wasn't by us. I dont remember the cracks in the external wall, and I'd be amazed if they were there and the double glazing...

    embarrasing question

I'm pretty ashamed to have to ask what is probably a very simple question, but how should I put up a picture on a solid brick wall covered in plaster. I'm assuming I cant just knock a picture hook and nail in, but at the same time drilling a hole seems overkill. I did see some fittings for...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Thanks all. Looks like you've confirmed most of what I thought. I had planned to insulate somehow but have been unable to find anything suitable. Could someone post a link to some suitable insulating plasterboard that will bend around the bay please? Otherwise I've seen lots of insulating paint...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

Thanks Chaps, I'll try to cover all of those points. I should have made it clear I was talking about the upper bay, not the lower one, so I dont suppose the DPC is the culprit. However, the house has NO airbricks in it. The windows do have the steel supports, however it does look to me to...

    Condensation or penetrating damp?

We have a bay that is getting mould on the inside. Recently it has also been wet to the touch. Double glazing was fitted a couple of years ago which may be a contributing factor. Is this condensation from the inside or penetrating damp from the outside? We get a few bits of condensation...
